From the FAQ thread

On geographic span and details
- The map is limited to Europe, stretching roughly to the Urals in the east and including parts of Persia and the Arabian Peninsula as well as the coast of North Africa. SGO Preview.
- Iceland is in, Greenland is not in game (Aetius note)...from historical reasons.

From the Sovereign dynasties of Christianity 1066

- These entries are "sure", i.e. Kingdoms or Empires
Scandinavia
- Kingdom of Denmark (House of Gorm) - Svend II Estridsson
- Kingdom of Norway (House of the Fair-haired) - Magnus II Haraldsson
- Kingdom of Sweden (House of Stenkil) - Halsten Stenkilsson

And since FAQ explains that all kingdoms are playable ;)

Hmm.. and this after all the discussions about the possibilities of playing a sami christian dynasty and spreading your culture across northern europe..

If I had to guess, its like EU2. Each color represents a different terrain type, which will affect movement, combat, etc. Also of course, those you can "see" are brighter than similar-terrain provinces which you can't "see" (compare Ascalon & Kerak on that map).

As for the colors being "wierd" well, if you look, theyre similar to EU2's terrain=color scheme, except with different "textures".

At this point, I dont care if they're purple and green...I just want the game...

Take a look at the world map on one of the screenshots in the screenshots thread. It would seem that most of Scandinavia is in, but the nothernmost part is cut off.

Yep, that's correct. The very north of Norway, Finland and Sweden is cut off, making the most Northern territories Hålogaland, Österbotten and Västerbotten respectively.

That's alright, I'm from what would be within the Hålogaland province. Those Finnmarkings are cut off, but that's just fine :)

What I meant about the colours is that I was worried if there was no nation display colour, just coat of arms? That would be confusing, I really liked seing my nation's colour in EUII...

Thats a damn shame, IMO, but I guess I can live with it. There were after all quite a few incidents in the north, but I hope the lack of northern provinces can be abstracted, like giving Hålogaland extra income or something.

I mean, why would Norway build a fort in Vardø if it was uninteresting land?

I hope we can simulate the income the northern lords had for the one holding Hålogaland, yes :)

What I really mean about the colours is that it seems to be a lack of nation-colours, if anyone understand my point...

having seen two maps with different map modes, I'm guess there will be several to choose from including a "national" mode with different owners reflected with differing colors.

I for one liked the coat of arms one, but I can easily see why most people wouldn't. The best thing to do is to have 4 or 5 modes like Victoria to please as many people as possible.
