First, a cavait: I would be defined as strickly a computer user, and have only limited knowledge of the inner workings of this or any machine. Please take that into account in your replies, thanks!

I recently purchased HoI v1.01, then updated it from this website first with the v1.02 update, then the v1.03 update, yet still have the same problem with my scenario editor. Simply put, I cannot get it to load properly. Clicking on the scenario editor opens a window that appears should be full-screen but is not and is cut off on all sides. What is shown is a part of the world map, and part of the collumn of options on the left side of the window. Opening a map under the "file" selection is possible, but because I cannot change the size, scope, scale or position of the map or read almost any of the options on the toolbar on the left, I cannot make changes in the editor.

Any helpful hints or program options would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

I use Windows ME, my computer has an ASUS MB, 1.4 Athlon CPU, 512k. It's a Ti-4200 G-Force 4 videocard, with 64MB memory. I'm running this in 1024 by 768 resolution.

What DirectX version do you have?
Do you have the latest Video drivers?

I've got DirectX 8, and I'm using a Ti-4200 video card with 64MB, and have the latest drivers.

Minimum specs require DirectX 8.1.

Ok, now I have DirectX 9.0 (it was the only one I could find, and was the only link available from Mircrosoft's website). I retried the editor, and the same thing happened.

Now, I figure, since I run windows in 1024X768 resolution, maybe I should just go back to 800x600, and so I change that back, and the editor window now appears fullscreen, but I still cannot do anything with it.

I can move the map window around the world, to see the whole thing, but I cannot read all the words or buttons on the left-side toolbar, because about a third of the left side bar is cut off (it's as if the window needs to be made larger, but I cannot adjust the editor window's size). In addition, the editor crashed immediately when I tried to open the 1941 scenario Awakening the Giant.

In short, I'm still lost here. Any ideas?

Do you need to adjust the physical monitor settings?
You know how you can make the screen bigger or change the shape by adjusting the buttons on the monitor?

I know how to alter the physical monitor settings, the issue about the window not being large enough is that I cannot seem to make it larger, there is no slider along the right or bottom (as windows show when the object is larger than the window).

Is the editor supposed to run full-screen (like the game itself)? If so, it is failing to load properly, because it's coming up wihin windows.

I have HOI set to 1024x768 and my screen size set the same, the editor opens in a window and I can see the whole thing.
So some thing is strange here. Try these settings and see if they make a difference. The other thing is you must have your color depth set to 16 bit.

Color and Screen Settings Checked Out

I've got 1024x768 and 16 bit color settings, and the game itself runs fine, but the editor still won't load properly. Back to the drawing board...

Any ideas folks? All are appreciated.

What do you have your game Res set to?

Great news, Lord Asher how about trying this, and let us know if that solves it for you as well.

Problem Solved!

I changed the font size to small in the settings, restarted my computer, opened the editor, and presto! Working fine now.

Thanks for all your help!

(now to design a WWI scenario...)

Great news, We have a new fix to file away.

Happy editting guys!

I have a similar problem to Lord Asher's. While the game runs fine, I can't get the HOI Editor to run. I've checked the solutions suggested for his problem, but my settings are already as suggested (no DMA, small fonts, using DirectX 8.1, etc.).

I can get the editor to load, but all I get is a part of the map (highest magnification), but it will not scroll, and just as with Lord Asher it looks to be cut off at the edges.

For me, the Editor tool bar to the left is inaccessable - everything is greyed out.

I have a Radeon 7000 (purchased and installed about 4 months ago -- I believe I have the most recent drivers, but maybe not -- I'll check that out.)

A slightly annoying problem that I've lived with, but may be connected, is that when I exit the game, I don't return to the desktop, but have a blue screen and Windows error message and always need to reboot. (I'll note the specific error message next time I play, in case I need to follow up on a reply.)

Any suggestions as to what I need to try next to get the Editor working?

Please give us complete specs on your system.
Do update your audio and video drivers.
Also make sure your operating system is up to date.
Rename your AVi folder to AVI_back. This may help with your exiting game problems.

Did you try the updates and changes I suggested?
