Screen Blinking - Can't Play HoI2

I have a technical problem that I need your help with please.

Game Version & Patch: Not sure, just downloaded it from Direct2Drive

OS & build/SP: Win XP Home Edition, SP3

Computer, CPU & speed: Intel Core2 6600 @ 2.4 GHz

RAM: 2 GB

Free HDD space: 1.8 GB

Video: Radeon X1900 Crossfire

Sound: Realtek HD Audio

DirectX Version: 9.0c

Here is my problem. I just downloaded HoI2 from Direct2Drive and installed it. The first time I ran the program it worked fine. I just checked it out and then closed it because I had something else to do. I rebooted and tried it about 2 hours later. The game loads fine, but as soon as the first menu comes up the screen starts blinking nonstop. No matter what you choose, the screen keeps blinking. It makes the game impossible to play. I also have Crusader Kings and it does the exact same thing. I just bought this game yesterday and I really would like to play it. Please let me know if anyone knows how to fix this.

Deskflag.exe is one possiblility. To check :

- press Control Alt and Delete simultaneously
- select Task Manager, then Processes. Select Image Name (to sort images alphabetically)
- look for Deskflag.exe. If it's running, select it and click End Process
- close Task Manager and try running the game.

No Deskflag. The HoI2 Wiki has a page here http://www.paradoxian.org/hoi2wiki/index.php/Technical_Issues#Screen_Flicker that addresses the problem and also directs to http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;331796 so I am going to try these options tonight if nobody has a better solution.

No dice. Neither solution worked. Please, if anyone has any ideas for me to try I would love to hear them.

I figured out how to run Armageddon in Windowed mode and that fixed it.
