Arrrrgggghhhhhh!

I played EU, skipped EU2, and I just picked up HoI last week based on my poor experience with the turd in a box also known as MOO3.

Anyways, I love HoI but the screen flashing is driving me crazy.

I am on WinXP Pro, GeForce4 Ti 4900 with the 41.09 Detonator Drivers. DX9-release version. I've checked and seen a few other people here with the problem but I haven't seen a solution. I've tried different color depths, resolutions, refresh rates, etc. I haven't tried upgrading or downgrading the drivers but I am running the most current released NVidia drivers.

HELP!!!!!!!!!

Have you...

1 - tried turning off the binkplayer? (rename the avi folder to avi_old)?

2 - tried reducing hardware acceleration on both your video and audio cards?

3 - tried inceasing your page file memory settings?

4 - ensured that you have downloaded the additional "suggested patches" from the Windows update site (not just the "critical" ones)?

1-4 Yes...

I found out what was doing it.

In my systray (next to the clock) I have the network icon which means I am connected to the Internet. I tried minimizing my task bar before launching HoI and the flashing stopped. I then exited HoI, un-minimized my task bar, and unchecked the box in network properties that displays the connection icon on the taskbar. The flashing stopped, or so I thought, but after playing for about a minute, I got one flash... another minute or so later, another flash... yes, you guessed it, the clock changing time... minute by minute, coincided exactly with the flash. I then exited HoI, minimized my taskbar again, restarted and the flashing hasn't appeared yet and I played for about 6 or 7 hours straight with no problems.

Very strange, glad you could track it down.
