I have my Windows desktop screen resolution set to 1152x864.

However, when I'm done playing Crusader Kings (i.e. after closing down Crusader Kings), the screen is messed up in the sense that I can only view the top/left-most 1024x768 pixels; the rest falls off/outside the screen.

What's wrong and how can I fix it?

Sorry for the late reply I have been on vacation.

Okay let's try some standard things.
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.

1) That's the one in the CK directory, right? (just to be 100% certain there is no misunderstanding here)
2) Always running Windows at 16bit...
3) The only thing I've got running in the background (while playing) is a virus protection... will try playing without it a few times, but I doubt it'll make a difference.

Yes the one in the folder where you installed CK.

Virus protection is one of the leading causes of game crashes.

After one try, it seems to be working.

Will try to play with virus protection enabled, see if that works too (i.e. if the problem was the intro video).

Okay let me know.

Working so far, so it would be the intro movie that caused the problem. Still need a few more tries to be sure though.

Great! I will keep my fingers crossed for you. :)

Please run a DirectX Diagnostic:
Start menu –Run - then type Dxdiag, then select each tab across the top of the window, and run the tests on each tab. Then select “Save All Information” button in the lower right of the window. This will bring up a dialog box to allow you to select a name for the file where the information will be saved. You can save it right on the desktop as this will make it easy to find. Then copy the contents of that file from the start to the heading that says “DirectX components” then paste what you have copied into a post in this thread.
