is there a way to change the screen resolution besides the .exe hacks that dont really work? I crash often enough that its more frustrating than fun to play using the .exe hack methods. The game just really isn't playable at the lower resolutions anymore (gave my old monitor away... 1024x800 looks like crap on a 28" monitor), but it isn't playable with the .exe hack either. Someone has to have another way to change the resolution!

I play it in on my 22" 1680 x 1050 monitor, and I can't say that low res really bothers me. Sure, the text looks kinda funny and isn't pleasant to read, but other than that, no real issue. Why would you have a 28" monitor for your computer anyway, must be a pain with such a big screen?

Well, just imagine how poor it looks on a 28" monitor if you think it's unpleasant to read on a 22" :D

And a 28" is amazing as long as the programs you use have support for higher resolutions. Which is my current problem with Victoria :(

You'll just have to wait for Vicky 2.

I have Ricky so I don't know if this is true for vanilla Vicky, but in your root folder (eg. C:\Games\Vicky) there should be a file called settings.cfg if you open this up in notepad you can change the resolution where it says screen size, for example mine says "SCREEN_SIZE_X 1920" followed by "SCREEN_SIZE_Y 1200".

Unless you've hacked the .exe file Victoria and Revolutions will not run at anything other than 1024x768 or 1280x1024. settings.cfg file settings other than those have no effect. The only Paradox game on the original EU engine that will run at higher resolutions is the Deus Vult expansion for Crusader Kings. (The non-Paradox-developed For the Glory and Arsenal of Democracy games will also work.)

Sorry to bump up this old thread but could someone please explain how to hack the .exe to play Ricky 2.01 with an higher resolution than 1280x1024.

Thanks for your help

The best thing is to use Lord Ederon's HexaWizard. You can find it here [link] It also works with HoI2 and Eu2. Not sure how high it goes, though, but you can always activate window mode.
