I sincerely hope that there is some method available for conducting a search through the database for characters known only by partial information.

To use an example from the recent Varangian Guard screen shot, suppose I see a message like "Mistislav have laid claim to the title Count of Sarkel" [grammatical nitpick: that should read "has laid claim"], and I, Count Svyatopulk of Podunk have had my eye on Sarkel for the last few years. I would like a method for getting to the character screen for this claim-jumping Mstislav so that I can see who he is, what family he belongs to, what province he is in, and so on, so that I can appropriately take action against him for his presumption.

Given how many Russian principalities existed in this period, I would not know where to look for him just given his name (and even within a single dynasty there might be more than one person with this name). I hope there is some method for linking from the news message given to the person (as well as the place).

I hope the interface is integrated well enough to take care of all these things. I want to be able to click on a name in the log and zonk to that person's hideous family. If we have to risk carpal tunnel collapse every time we want to check on the status of the 24 nieces of Cuchullain the Unwashed, Count of Ossory, Tmuturokan and Bejaia it's going to suck no matter how fyne the rest of the game is.

Calling anyone who live in the Middle Ages "Unwashed" is a pleonasm.
But yes, I also hope there will be hyperlinks available from the game log, so I wouldn't have to fend off a horde of pop-up message windows every time I would like info on something like that...
Cheers,
Milos

It's a common misconception. In fact, bathing was quite popular in the Middle Ages both among peasants and nobility, who knew the hazards of being dirty, and certainly didn't appreciate being stinky any more than we do. Public bath houses existed in major cities, but because we mostly get historical chronicles from the clergy who didn't approve of those, there isn't much written about them.

So don't assume everyone was unwashed in the Middle Ages. ;)

I would assume they have a function for finding provinces and kingdoms as they do in EU2, HoI and Victoria. These games have the \ key that brings up text box. You type in name of country/province, and voila, the map centers on that spot. I would assume they have a similar function in CK.

An eclectic group of counties Cuchullain rules, eh? I would love to see an AAR for a game in which that happens! :D

Well, per the log 'Mieszko' is a Swiss bishop :) What I mean is if a personality has wide-ranging claims his relations with other game characters will get kaliedoscopic - that's why interface will be all, though I speak as one who hasn't had so much as a sniff of the game.
