Hi all,

I just bought EU2 this morning and am looking forward to coming to grips with what looks like a most intriguing game. I have read in various places that it's a good idea to install a patch but am unsure which one to use, and where to get it from.

I am in West Australia and (apart from the information that the game is v1.00) can't find any info about which regional version we got here. Was it a US, UK, European, Asia Pacific or whatever (all variations that sometimes come here with other games), and which would be the right patch to apply?

I've visited the official download site and can't find any reference to a patch suitable for Australia. I did see several references to a 1.05 patch (prematurely??) released in Australia, but couldn't find a link to download it.

Could any wise soul please enlighten me? Thanks.

Sorry folks - should have posted this in the Support section of the forum (which I managed to overlook for some reason... blame senility...)

Apparently the answer is that the situation with patches is currently a mess with regard to the version sold in Australia and NZ. :(

Why not answer him at the same time?

There was an 'unfinished' patch available from Ozisoft. You could try to find a thread on the subject started by JohnMK a few days ago to get the link - it's somewhere on the most recent couple of pages of General Discussions. But I'm not sure whether the Ozisoft patch is still available for download, as there was quite an upset about it being incomplete (it works fine with my NA version of EU2 save for a few minor bugs).

Judging by my success in using an Australian patch on the NA version of the game, I'd suggest you simply try NA patch 1.04 and see what happens - what have you got to lose? At worst the game will be buggy and you'll reinstall it. But somehow I think things will work just fine if your computer's in good shape (clean, defragemented system).

But maybe another mod will be able to give you better informed, professional advice?

1.04 NA will not work on your Australian version :(

There are no good patch available right now, I fear you will have to wait for the official release of 1.05 for all markets.

Thanks for the help guys,

I tried the 1.04 and - sure enough - I got the "Wrong disc inserted" error message that others have reported (apparently due to some sort of stuff up with the Aussie version of the game disk).

I might try the "premature" 1.05 - which does still seem to be around - but as it's 15megs it will take a couple of hours for me to download. It looks as if the full version should be out reasonably soon, so it might just be better to wait for that (and hope it works with the Australian disks).

Basically, I've only had the game a few hours and am still working through the tutorial, plus trying to decipher the miniscule print in the rather stingy little manual that came with the Australian game. So I think that 1.04 will probably do me just fine until the next patch. It's going to take me a week or two just to learn the game, let alone be knowledgeable enough to spot minor problems! :D

Thanks for the input. This looks like a great game and a fascinating forum too. So I look forward to joining in the discussions once I'm a bit less stupid about the actual game! :)

I just bought my copy yesterday here in Sydney. After 5 years of online playing RPG's and combat flight simulators only this game has really thrown me in to the deep end, gotta think now:)
Go to "chema_cagis" Beginner's Guide to EU2, it's absolutely brilliant for us newbies that feel overwhelmed with the complexity of it all. You'll find it as a sticky thread in the general section.

Cheers,
Fester.
