I've had EU2 since it came out and played it without any trouble on my old pc. However, I had to stop for various reasons about a year ago and in the mean time, got a new, better pc. I finally re-installed EU2, got the latest patch and its essentially a clean install, for all intents and purposes (made a couple of edits which I used previously like giving the scots anglo-saxon culture and d/loaded GUFSM 1.1e - a mainstream flag and shield mod, incase anyone reading doesn't realise). I started the game, made some of my alterations (which messages pause the game, etc.) and started the game. Unfortunately, after about 1 1/2 months of my 1773 Prussia game, I got a ctd - seemingly with no cause. Oh well, what are the chances of that? Off we go again. Oh dear - another ctd in march. What a rarity. Third attempt. Bugger - 2 weeks this time. I've since had a few attempts with other countries in different scenarios and still suffer from the same situation - all crashing within the first few months, all, except one, apparently without cause. I did, though, run a game without altering anything (Austria - 1700, if its needed), only OKing messages, making choices on events and accepting a peace. I ran it for a year and a half without any probs and without it looking like there would be one so a gave up on that as I was satisfied enough.

I suppose I'll have to try and few things out, see if all untouched games run ok and whether its something I'm doing which causes it to crash - what I dunno. Still if anyone has any ideas as to what could be the problem, thanks.

I might as well report that "caused" ctd now. As Sweden in 1700, I fought a naval battle with the danes pretty quickly and mid-battle a message which pauses appeared. I dealt with it and when I looked back, I noticed that whilst the noise had continued, the danish ship was off Stockholm whilst my ships were in the zone below, where I left them, both doing nothing. When I clicked on my ship it ctd'd. Probably ought to put this in the Bug Report forum but I'll stick it here as well. Thanks again for any help.

Well, I played a few untouched games and they all ctd'd relatively quickly. However, I tried doing one as Japan, columbus switched on and all that to see what happened and it ran for at least 55 years without any trouble, I actually placed traders for the first decade or so, too, so I can't really make my mind up as to whether my doing things has any effect.

Top FIVE things to avoid crashes:
1) Rename your AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set color depth to 16 BIT
3) Make sure nothing is running in the background like Virus protection, ICQ/messanger ...
4) Make sure you have fully updated your operating system, and Video and Audio drivers.
5) Make sure you have the latest patch, currently this is the Feb 7th Beta patch.

1) Already done.
2) It always used to be alright on the old one at 32bit but I suppose I'll give it a go.

4) Already done.
5) I was going to give the beta ones a miss and wait for 1.08 to come out, largely because I didn't see why such a large amount of beta ones couldn't be decided upon as a final patch. I'd noticed a few threads saying this or that could be altered (tone up the effects of something, etc.) and thought that perhaps a few things were being done with them to see if they helped or hindered the game. That isn't the case then? Is it just something to do with legal technicalities or something?

Thanks again.

There have been a few reports with the age of revolution scenario giving CtDs, but this is with the betas.

The beta system currently used is *I think* because Johan wanted to test a few things (which has grown into a lot) but the usual way of betatesting it with a few betatesters having access to it would not give as much feedback as the whole community testing it. So far it has worked quite nicely.

I'll give it a go then. Just tried using 16bit colouring and it crashed after 6 months so I don't think that's my solution. Whats strange though is, there have been a couple of occasions when its run for longer (as I say, in one case for over half a century). Its definitely not occuring as a result of me doing a particular action - I'm sucessfully doing every action I could want to, it just suddenly decides to die.

There have been many CTD fixes over the course of the betas as well so they may help.

i just testing my signature, srry

Do that kind of thing in the off topic forum. You could have just looked at one of your old posts to do it as well.

Download 1.07 at the least, probably use the betas as well.

The betas are patches that have not been officially released.
You can find them in the sticky thread in the main EU2 forum.
The last post in the thread will have the most recent one, that is the only one you need. Download it then use WinRAR or another program to decompress it simmilar to a zip file. UnRAR it to the EU2 folder.
