Hello All,

I've just noticed that megaupload has been closed down. I think this is ok to post here as many many mods are uploaded for DH players to megaupload. At least all of mine were. What happens now...??:eek:hmy:

See http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/20/t...es-megaupload-site-with-piracy.html?src=twrhp

Text:

McLEAN, Va. — Federal prosecutors in Virginia say they have shut down one of the world’s largest Internet file-sharing sites, Megaupload.com, and charged its founder and others with violating piracy laws.

An indictment accuses the company of costing copyright holders more than $500 million in lost revenue from pirated films and other content. The indictment was unsealed Thursday, one day after Web sites shut down in protest of two Congressional proposals intended to thwart the online piracy of copyrighted movies and TV programs.

Megaupload.com has claimed it is diligent in responding to complaints about pirated material.

The indictment says that at one point, Megaupload was the 13th most popular Web site in the world.

Well this is bad. Looks like we have to upload through Gamefront now..

How ever inconvenient it may be to the gaming community, seems to me this is a good thing. Piracy, putting aside the moral and legal implications of it, does drive prices up on all forms of media be they movies, music or games.

Really since the big selling point of DH is the easy ability for user mods to be worked into it, you'd think Paradox would be willing to host the mods on a site somewhere. Would be easy enough to require people to have people use their forum account, with a registered version of DH attached to it required, to access it, download and upload to it.

Hopefully this means everyone will wise up and use Mediafire. I don't see why people haven't, you don't have to wait to download, it has a better file manager, etc., etc..

This. For > 200 MB, just split it into parts on RAR and upload them in parts. JDownloader is an awesome tool for automating DDL.

I for one, don't use pirated games or software, even though at times I have really wanted something, but decided NO! I'll do without or use freeware instead.

I also wouldn't know the difference between the different download/upload sites. I used megaupload because that is what others were using for their mod uploads.

I'm just now concerned about all the stuff we've (as a community) lost in the closure of megaupload... All the classic mods. Have we lost Puma's sprites etc etc?

If we move now to another site, who's to say the USA hegemony over us all won't close that too? Where is this going?

EDIT: It's certainly knocked the idea of Cloud Computing on the head. Would you put your data online now?

Nothing is Safe. Everything is ours. This is the same group who claims copyright over The Nutcracker,Mozart and even Wagner! Youtube is their bitch hence why everything is being taken down. You can blame SOPA for this. If this is happening before SOPA then what would it be like afterwards?

Actually some of the biggest game companies (like EA) say that pre-owned games cost them much more than piracy.

This would cost a lot for Paradox but it will be definetely the best thing. Considering that this megaupload thing can happen again.

What's wrong with MediaFire? It works wonderfully with NoSciprt and AdBlockPlus unlike certain other filesharing websites, so you can use it as a cloud service more or less with no adverts/distractions (although I feel bad for adblocking them)

Good, MegaUpload was a virus-encrusted nightmare. I didn't DL Kaiserreich for awhile because MegaUpload would cause a shit-ton of pop-ups and I've had fake AVG scans happen to me more than a few timed while I was on there.
