The Legio I marched south toward Neapolis, while receiving reinforcements in preparation for the final assault on the Etruscan territory. In the meantime the Legio III got replacements and is now in full strength again.
Roman envoys in Athens signed a Trade Agreement with the city.
Senators, you need to vote on the following issue.
A. Technology
From now on the Senate will have to decide, which path our technological progress is taking. Hence you must vote for one of the six available technologies.
(With the initial two technologies researched, you are in charge of our R&D department. Deadline is Saturday 6 PM Forum Time)
I second the opinion of my esteemed colleague in this matter. While the legionnaire is, of course, the most prized of all our warriors, we must not forget that an army has many components, each with varied methods of conducting warfare, and that said components must not be neglected. I, too, believe we should pursue maniple organization to increase the effectiveness of our ranged units in battle.
The Legions I and III kept moving, while also recruiting more units. Right now, the Legio I, supported by the Classis I, are near Alalia and the last battle between Rome and the Etruscan League will soon occur. Simultaneously the Legio III will reach full strength soon and is about to invade the territory of the Liguri.
The Legio III has to be fast in order to capture Genoa, since Massilia has declared war on the Liguri too and now the fastest of the two factions will gain the price.
In Ariminum the Legio IV Veneria was established, although it consists of the Commander`s guard only right now.
In the east reports indicate, that Athens gains the upper hand in the conflict with Epirus, since it could capture the city of Larisa recently.
Finally the Maniple Organization was finished lately, resulting in a larger amount of ammunition for all ranged units. And this feature will probably come in handy shortly.
Senators, new issues need to be discussed and voted.
A. Technology
With the Maniple Organization realized, a new technology needs to be picked.
B. Commander in waiting
With the Legio IV established under the command of T. Caesetius Pulvillus, a new commander in waiting needs to get appointed.
(When you look at the stats, you will see a number in brackets attached to each tech name. That`s the amount of turns it takes to research the appropriate tech. Deadline is Monday 6 PM Forum Time.)
A. Technology
I believe that we should still begin researching Physical Exercise.
B. Commander-in-waiting
I believe that M. Aurelius Tibero is the perfect man for the job in case we establish a new Legion or one of our current main commanders die.
Senators, the results of the current session are as follows:
A. Technology
Since there is a tie, the Consul has to decide. lthough I do understand the motivation of the Senators who want to improve the moral of our armies, I support those Senators who prefer an immediate reform of our tax system.
B. Commander-in-waiting
M. Aurelius Tibero has been appointed as new Commander-in-waiting.
The Etruscan War, raging for eight long years, was about to reach its climax and end at the same time. The Etruscans had gathered one last army in Alalia on Corsica. Hence a landing operation without fleet support was risky and Decimus Junius Brutus did take the lead. The Classis I destroyed the few Etruscan ships and thus cleared the path for the Legio I to make landfall.
The Legio I needed a decent amount of time to defeat the army of Alalia, but at the end of the day way more than one thousand defenders were slain, although the enemy commander Tiberius Pistor could escape and returned soon later with the remnants of his army and some mercenaries. This time he had less luck and he and another 500 of his men were dead.
With Pistor`s death the Etruscan League ceased to exist. During the war roughly 1.000 Roman soldiers had died, while the Etruscans lost more than three times this amount.
In the meantime the Roman forces in the north gathered and finally invaded the territory of the Liguri. The Legio III and IV were about to attack Genoa and without any doubt these barbarians would meet their fate in the same way the Etruscans did.
In the south, Rome could sign a Non-Aggression-Pact with the city of Syracuse while in the northeast the Veneti declared war on the Dalmatae.
Senators. Good news came from the west, when Alalia fell and the Etruscan War was won. In the north the war versus the Liguri began and you will be informed about the progress as soon as we receive reports from the two Legions.
In the meantime you have to vote on the following issue:
A. Technology
With Tax Organization improved, we need to chose a new Technology
(Since I am not at home on Friday and Saturday we will have two "long" turns this week. Hence the Deadlines will be Thursday and Sunday. Sorry for the inconvenience. Deadline for this turn is Thursday 5 PM Forum Time)
