Hi all,

Im new on NWAC (great game!) but have some experience with other combat simulators and have a question regarding sensors...

Im constantly detecting contacts with my active sensors turned off (red light). I understand that, in that case, they are on passive mode, so should detect any contact emitting, like active radars or sonars. But in that case, shouldn't I just get the bearing of the emitter and maybe his ID, not the precise location?

For example, I can detect the precise location and type of (so I can engage) surface contacts withing range of my radars even when they are off, and even if they are emitting, my radar warning receiver should only detect the direction of the emission and maybe, based on the type of the emission, his ID. Same with passive sonars, that should only detect the direction and ID of any noise emitter contact, but Im detecting the precise location of submarines far beyond sonar range with passive sonobuoys. And when I click on the contact to see who has detect him, its really my passive sensors.

Im wrong or Im really detecting my enemies too easily?

Another thing... What is that "kyte" shape that appears around contacts sometimes? I believe its related to passive contact, but not sure...

Thank you very much and keep up the good work!

Sorry for any English errors and cheers from Brazil...

I think the reason for the fast triangulation of contacts is the "super-datalink" modelled in this game. This means that once two of your units have passively detected an enemy you can triangulate the position very accurate.
