 Help! I am having serious trouble with crashes in HOI! I don't know if it is for other nations and scenarios as well, but whenever I play America on Awakening the Giant, around mid-1942 I get booted to the desktop with a steel toe! Sooo, I download the latest NVIDIA drivers... oh happy day! Now it boots me out about three days into the game!
What do I do? I have an NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX video card (version 41.09), SoundMAX Digital Audio (emulated) sound card, 1.7Ghz of processing power, 256MB RAM, Windows XP operating system, Gateway computer. Thank you for your assistance.

First thing to try is renaming your AVI folder to AVI_back.

I have the same problem ????

I to have a mega crashproblem!!!!! I got the game in December
havent had a chance to play the game for more than 20 minuts before I get kcik to desktop. I have tryed it without at patch with patch 1.01 and 1.02. And it is the same problem every time.

I have also reasently reinstalled my computer and have tried following configurations with HOI and the all the Patches:

First time:

Athlon XP 2100+, ASUS A7V333 (Latest VIA 4 in 1 vers. 4.45 Hyperion) Kingston PC2700 DDR-SDRam 512 mb, Pallit Dayton GeForce 3 Ti200 128 DDR-SDRam 128 mb (with nVidia detonator dated 01.07.02. and later with nVidia detonator 42.01) Creative Live! Player with the lastet driver. Running Windows XP
Home DK verison Servicepack 1.

Second time:

Athlon XP 2100+, ASUS A7V333 (Latest VIA 4 in 1 vers. 4.45 Hyperion) Kingston PC2700 DDR-SDRam 512 mb, Pallit Dayton GeForce 3 Ti200 128 DDR-SDRam 128 mb (with nVidia detonator dated 01.07.02. and later with nVidia detonator 42.01) Creative Live! Player with the lastet driver. Running Windows XP
Proff. DK verison Servicepack 1.

I also tryed the renaming of avi to avi_back and disabling the music like it is explaind here in the Forum.

But HOI keeps crashing ????

How do I get HOI to run without crashing and am I the only one that cant get HOI to run correctly ???????

Okay, wipe the game from your system and install a fresh version of the game then install the correct 1.02 patch for your version. Do not install 1.01.

Please tell me when it crashes, What are you doing or what is happening in the game at the time. Does it always crash at the same time?

well i reinstalled HOI yesterday. It was patched with 1.02 without using 1.01!

The problem appears when i play Germany or USA. When I play Germany i appears about when the time line is at april 1936, and i want to use Diplomatics, but not at the eksactly same point in the game. (And I have restartet a new game every time - havnt bin usesing old saves from old installations).

When i play USA the problem apear when i reach about 1941 - Here is also different point in the game where HOI kick me to desktop, and when i restart the old save game i kicks me again, after 10 minuts. The problem is here not diplomatics but when i want to build a unit or manage convoys an so on.

I havnt tried other contrys yet, and i dont think i want to get going before Paradox finds some kind of solution to the crashes, not so funny just playing 5-10% of a game and the crash, crash, crash!

Thank you for reply - hope u can figure out the problem.

I would have to say it is Graphics related.

Nvidia's main site lists this driver as the one you want
http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=winxp-2k_41.09

Which is 41.09, I see you have a later one, are you running DirectX9.0? You might try this driver and see if it is more stable.

Try reducing the video acceleration, see if that makes a difference.

Okay - Ill. try the 41.09 Detonator. I have tryed the game with the lastest DrectX 9.0 and before that DirectX 8 and I had the same problem.

I have talk to PanVision the Scandinavien distributer. They recomended that i had DirectX 9 installed. I have sendt them a mail with the extract from running DXDIAG on XP. They will get
back to me if/when they figure out the problem.

This may sound like a newbi qustion, but how do i turn the accelleration up and down ? And why is this nessesary to play a brand new game like HOI ? Its the first time in 10 years i have tryed a game that was so difficult to get working, and i can se on the forum that im not the only one ? In reality i feel like have payed good money for a game that havnet even qualyfied for a
beta version ?:( The manual is quit good when it is about the gameplay, but wich page is about multiplay, troubleshooting and
hardware problem ? I cant find them ?

But anyway thx. for your help so far. Hope i can clear out my CTD's

Okay, be sure and keep the AVI folder renamed as that is known to cause some problems, you might also try reading some of the bug forum for some issues to avoid like Paratroopers...
Let us know how turning down the video acc. works.

How and where do i turn down the acelleration in Windows ?

My avi folder has been renamed to aviback in all testest, i havnt
reached a part in the game yet where i could use paratrooper.

Please reply on turning acelleration down.

Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Performance tab - Graphics button.

Never mind i found out that my CTD problem is a general bug in the game. Installed HOI with 1.02 patch on my server. Copyed the saved game from my gamecomputer and "bang" CTD at the ecsactly same place in the game. I Think my CTD problem cant be graphics related.

Castellon i can zip the saved game and mail it to you for testing. Would be nice to know if the saved game crashes on all computers.

Hold on to it. We are making some changes to the forum that may make it easier for you to get the file to me.
