While I've run with countries in one file or the other, I haven't tried to see if there are any limits to the total number of countries. Another test...

BTW, in a prior post I mention the value being set to -9999. I meant 9999.

And finally

I ran one more hands off, this time with all countries in traders.csv. No apparent difference. I am content that it does not make a difference whether countries are in colonists.csv or traders.csv. I only did two tests, but there was definitely no skewing of types of colonial activities in either test, and the split between colonies/TP's is totally consistent with the ai files.

I'll leave any further exploitation of the extra "room" for countries in colonists/traders.csv to someone else.

And the further, repeated, editorial comment. A number of changes were made in IGC to colonists.csv to promote or demote colonial activities by countries. Most of these changes are probably ineffective and need reviewed - I'll post this to the IGC2.4 thread.

Perhaps people can help me. I am currently playing IGC 2.3. Playing as the Iroquois. Now, I desperately want to have the ability to get colonists. Thing is, how? I went into the csv file, added the OHI for the Iroquois, basically copied what England had, but is this right? Because(shudder) otherwise, i have to change the religion to reformed or some such crap.
Please, as I really don't want to have to resort to playing the ruddy Fantasia scenario.

You need a naval thingy (can't remember the name) that lets you build lots of ships. That gets you 1 colonist per year.

To get colonists automatically requires you to patch colonists.csv. The 2nd column after the dates is the one to patch. Make it 100 to get 1 colonist per year, 200 to get 2, etc. Change each line to get colonists througout the game. I haven't tested this. I don't know whether there are funny rules about Native populations regarding colonization like there are in other game areas.

actually, it does work. I basically copied the numbers from England for the Colonist.csv, and for Portugal for trader.csv. not sure if they corelate with each other, but if i tweak the start(basically start a game, then save it right on first day, then edit savegame to have 3 settlers when i start)then when i get one of the coastal provinces, i get 2 settlers/year at the start due to colonial dynamism.

They probably don't correlate, but no matter.

If you are interested in the exact aspects of getting colonists, there is a sticky thread in the FAQ forum (I think) that describes it in detail.

not when i begin, but that is why i edited the savegame to start with 3 colonists(1/3 has to succeed, so i get my coast)

I know that before I added more colonial dynamism to Oman using the 100=1, 200=2, 300=3 method, and it worked like a charm, really. Perhaps the aforementioned funny rules for N. American Indians?
