So we have a few basic ship classes (8pc., 12pc., 16pc, combo meal), modified by mission-specific modules (extra crispy, original recepie, etc.), across a number of sections (cornbread, mashed potatoes, biscuits). This system sounds versatile and delicious.

In conclusion, I like chicken.

Much as I like wet navy classes in space... it's probably best to ask yourself what the role of these ships is. What differentiates a cruiser from a destroyer from a battleship (etc etc etc)?

Take the pre-WW1 naval arms race... until HMS Dreadnought, you had just regular old battleships. Dreadnoughts were nothing more than bigger battleships - they fulfilled the exact same role, with one exception: only the richest powers could afford to build / buy them (unlike regular battleships), thus allowing the world's major powers to focus on their real rivals (UK, USA, Germany, France et al), and not wannabe nations with delusions of grandeur.

So, a ship that's slow, heavily armed, and designed for slugging matches might be classified as a battleship even if quite small. Long range ships designed for endurance and speed might be called cruisers whatever their size, and so on.

I believe (hope?) that corvette, destroyer, cruiser and battleship are strictly size categories and don't correspond to any particular role. Each ship will have three sections (front, middle, back) and depending on tech you will have multiple choices for each section. It is these section choices (and hopefully weapon and defense choices) that will determine the battle role of a ship design. So some battleships will be true big-gun, heavily armored battleships while some might be large missile platforms or carriers, etc.

Yes...if they follow the SoTS blueprint, than I guess that's what we'll see also.

I dont want generic hull sizes Just give me weights and size let me do the naming.

Paradox is usually pretty good at allowing re-naming, moding, ect...
