Somewhat big battle. Ships on my side just keep circling around in place way out of weapon range, enemy fleet does largely the same but a few ships at a time keep trickling towards my forces to get murdered.

At the moment of that screenshot the "battle" has already been going on for a long time, and the approaching splinter of the enemy fleet is considerably larger than the groups of ~three ships that came before it.

To try to resolve the situation faster, I had another fleet warp into the system from behind the enemy. Upon engaging they did a "drive-by", shooting at the enemy as they moved past them and then merged with the blob of friendly ships.

Earlier on I had a similar problem with a smaller fleet of mine, consisting of two cruisers, a handful of destroyers and a bunch of corvettes. Upon engagement, the cruisers would just freeze in place or at most creep ahead VERY slowly, while the smaller ships advanced to actually fight the enemy. The cruisers had no long range weaponry and were stuck doing nothing well beyond their weapon range.

Also the game performance during battles is pretty atrocious, despite my PC meeting or exceeding all the recommended specs. Maybe this is related somehow?
