So this has happened in two playthroughs of mine, and I have no idea why. Basically, at a certain point in the game, the cost of my navy becomes freakishly high. In my first playthrough, it coincided with building cruisers, in the one in the screenshots happened while building a lot of corvettes, so maybe that's related?
The screenshots below come from a save which was modded but I disabled all the mods to make sure it wasn't related to that; the problem seems to persist. (although I have modded defines to increase AI aggressiveness and I have made some graphics half the size, I doubt its related) (also note that on both screenshots I used research_technologies for some reason)

This screenshot shows the cost of 17 corvettes, with my ship design (3 small blue lasers, tier three thrusters, defensive combat computer, 2 fusion reactors, three tier 1 armor), without the weird spike in cost.

This shows the cost of 20 with the exact same design, however as you can see the cost is ridiculously high. Even the 3 extra ships can't possibly account for 30 or more extra energy cost.
