In this first edition of "short stories", i will be trying for the first time succesfully fight the nazi menace as the soviets. The series is mostly intended of trying out different strategies and styles of defeating far superior enemies. There will not be much in the way of storytelling, mostly just showing how things can be done differently.
So here goes.
Ladies and gentlemens, boys and girls. I give you, the Red Hammer.
To start off i will tell you a little about how i begun my game.
First thing to do is to begin a massive construction of a fortress line in preparation for the inevitable war, of strength 10 on every province it spans. "The Line" spans from Mogilevi Podolski - Cherkassy - Priluki in the south behind the river all the way up to Smolensk - Vitebsk - Polotsk. The complete annexation of the Baltics and Finland is required for later.
Also a large building project behind the Caspian inland sea is underway to build some backup factories. The first batch of factories will produce the second one. By 1939 - 1940 all this will be completed, and everything will be ready to begin a massive infantry materials production to prepare several hundred infantry divisions into the bunkerline for defence and about equally for offensives elsewhere.
Shortly after the annexation of Finland, a war is declared on sweden. The war is swift as can be imagined. Especially as after the great purge, the soviet military leadership adopted the german-style "Lightning war" style of fighting, utilizing strong armored spearheads with infantry behind and in the middle to secure vast swathes of land very quickly. The very southernmost tip of Sweden is spared of occupation for now, as overrunning it would surely alert the germans to Denmark and f*** up everything for the future.
It's funny to see what the Wehrmacht officers can think up to crush any part of the line where in strongest places during winter they would be attacking ~20 divisions with around 70 org defending a frozen marsh in a blizzard behind a river in lvl 10 bunker complex with lvl 15-20 dug in bonus.
At any rate, when the time is right, after several delays and production line retoolings the soviet army in Sweden is large enough to go on the move again, none in the german army will see it coming, and when they finally manage to react it will all be too late. All the armies in the world would not be able to stop the soviets now.
The attack begins with the annexation of Sweden, then with the attacking divisions quickly moving over the Öresund to lay waste to the very few german occupational forces stationed in denmark. No prisoners are taken, everyone wearing anything resembling a german uniform, anyone making the slightest suggestion of opposition to soviet advance including civilian, be it man woman or child is promptly shot. Leaflets dropped only one hour before the invasion accross all of denmark say only: "Danish comrades, stay inside your homes, do not go into any streets, and co-operate with any soviet soldier of your safety and the safety of everyone in your household will be forefeit."
The invasion itself is a smashing success, with even germans making only nominal trouble for the soviet advance, never slowing it down even a bit. The second part of the operation is when several divisions are laid to the beaches near the cities of Stettin and Stralsund. They quickly advance south while troops from Denmark advance west and south to encircle the german capital of Berlin and onwards, cutting supplies to every division in the german Wehrmacht.
The attack on Cracow shows just how badly demoralized and shocked the german troops are. News from Berlin tell of widespread panic and looting in the streets, while Hitler stays in his bunker paralyzed, on the verge of total nervous breakdown, unable to give any kind of orders. The general staff of Wehrmacht is now running the show, what's left of it, best as they can.
More later, sleep now. Next update will show the biggest encirclement ever.
