This is why I tend to stick with mods that only play game play and don't include assets of any kind, the mods stop working sure, but they don't stop you playing the game while your waiting for them to be fixed.
This. Also I do a lot of flipping from stock to modded and not having to worry about most saves having dependency on modded content makes that easy.

Thanks a lot for the info guys.

Sorry if I seem like a bit of a moron, but where can I get a beginners guide to installing mods?

I've got these links from you guys: [Mod edit : no unapproved links/ github]

There's also something called "Battletech Mod Manager" on Nexus. Which of these do I need? Should I use the Nexus Mod Manger as well?

Ignore anything with BTML, it's been rolled in to ModTek which is currently maintained on that first link and that will have the current instructions. Basically, DL the ModTek .zip, unzip it in to a folder you make called "Mods" in the root BT folder. Run the injector.exe, then unzip your mods in to the "Mods" folder and you should be done.

Just put Modteks whole folder in the mods folder (which you may need to create) and run the injector contained therein.
Extract any further mods each into their own folder within mods.
Done.

Sorry to bring this back once again guys, but I've tried to install ModTek but with no luck.

I downloaded the whole thing from here: [Mod edit: no guthub]

I created a "Mods" folder in my "Steam\SteamApps\common\BATTLETECH" folder.

I unzipped ModTek and pasted the whole unzip contents into my new "Mods" folder. But I have several layers of ModTek folders now.

"BATTLETECH\Mods\ModTek-master\ModTek-master" and then three more folders inside that called; "ModTek", "ModTekInjector" and "ModTekUnitTests".

The README that comes with it says...

* Move the entire ModTek folder from the release download into the `BATTLETECH\Mods\` folder
* You should now have a `BATTLETECH\Mods\ModTek\` folder
* Run the injector program (`ModTekInjector.exe`) in that folder
* DO NOT move anything from the `BATTLETECH\Mods\ModTek\` folder, it is self-contained.

But my results don't look the same as what it says there. Should I only have one folder in my "Mods" folder called just "ModTek"?

Also, I cannot find any program called "ModTekInjector.exe", there is one called "ModTekInjector.csproj" and one called "Injector.cs". But I have no idea how to open or run these files.

Windows recommended to download Microsoft Visual Studio, which I did, but I'm not sure what to do with it.

How do I run the injector program, etc?

E:\Program Files (x86)\steamapps\common\BATTLETECH\Mods\
under that there should be a folder called ModTek.
inside that should be a bunch of .dll files and the modtekinjector

once you run the injector there will be a second file under Mods called .modtek

delete what you have there...re-extract modtek to E:\Program Files (x86)\steamapps\common\BATTLETECH\Mods\
of course change E to wehat drvie you have BT in.

there should only ever be 2 modtek folders and the second doesnt happen until injector is run.

oh and dont worry about asking for help..thats what these forums are here for

Ok, @PauloBrito showed me the correct link to the current ModTek
So ModTek is working now.

But I tried to install "BattleTech Performance Fix" from Nexus, put the folder into my Mods folder, but it said "Some mods did not load".

Then I looked at that mods details and it says it needs BTML. But I thought someone said here that BTML was already rolled into ModTek? No?

I would start with something more simple as a first test, one thing worth noting when your downloading mods from nexus mods, sort by last updated date and then start with mods updated June 2019 or later, i.e. after the release of 1.6 and Urban Warfare, these will likely have been tested and updated to work with the new release. All the ones i listed work though.
I have found I haven't needed the performance fix mod since 1.6 as most of the performance issues seemed to have been resovled for me within the game itself.

Ok, I successfully installed a mod, which is the Skip Intro mod (starting the game is a lot easier now).

I've also now installed cFixes, which seems to be working fine.

I can't find the following recommended mods on Nexus:
* BTMLColorLoS
* Mechspin
* BetterAI

Also, BattleTech Performance Fix doesn't seem to have been updated since December 2018. Should I try to use it? (performance can definitely be bad for me in menus and stuff).

I'll probably install PanicSystem and Semi-Permanent Evasion as they look pretty cool.

I think BTMLColorLos may have been renamed as ModTek - Firing Line Improvements on Nexus Mods.
BetterAI I think you need to get out of the Battletech Modders github.

Not everything is on Nexus, I don't bother with it for most of my mods and just post to Git.
