Only thing I might suggest is to instead send that merchant to a node that has arrows pointing to Sevilla (preferably one where you have a decent amount of trade power and the node is fairly rich) and get him to "Transfer trade power". This will make the trade/money flow from that node to Sevilla.

The reason I suggest this as opposed to collecting from your home trade node (Sevilla), is because it's your home trade node and you will always automatically collect trade from there anyway and it's not necessary to have a merchant there at all. The only difference getting him to collect there is that it provides a small bonus to your trade power in Sevilla and subsequently means you'll get a slightly bigger share of trade/gold. Generally however, it's better to get merchants to transfer trade to your node however since that generally tends to be more profitable. Happy trading!
Thank you so much! I will do this when I resume my campaign. Off to profit from the Americas!
Also, is there a reason why trade flows from the Americas (Chesapeake Bay, Mexico, Brasil, etc.) when the Americas haven't been discovered yet? Did the devs ever explain why?

I'm actually not entirely sure on this one, however I do believe that even though it says that it's flowing, actual trade wont flow until the americas are discovered by someone in the old world.

the economic part of vicky is obscure

Obscure indeed.

There is nothing worse than playing outside of Europe and watch capitalists in your country building dozens of industries relying on coal, only to find out late game your country is not prestigious enough to acquire that resource on the market anymore - never ever again! You're then left with two awful decisions to make: you either close down all of your unprofitable factories an take the economical hit or you simply go on and subside them in order to keep the country industrialized and the POP happily employed - and suffer an even greater economical hit.

Vicky 2 still is a nice game despite that, as long as you choose to be in charge of one of the major countries.

Right but, at least in the beginning of the game, it's still better to put a merchant collecting in the home node than transferring from another one if your home node is a rich node (like Sevilla).
Best way to test is to save the game, put the merchant in home node collecting, wait until end of month when things get recalculated, check the amount of trade money, then reload, put the merchant in a node flowing into your home node, wait again to the end of the month and compare the two numbers.

Do you have any knowledge of particularly profitable Trade Nodes? I'd like to collect trade from Sevilla but if I can, I'd think Constantinople is better for getting more funds, am I right on this?

well you can't just put a merchant in the best node to collect. You need trade power in the node for the merchant to collect. Typically you'd consider those where you have the best power/value ratio (basically, the idea is that collecting 30% of 20 gold is better than collecting 1% of 100 gold).
If you speak Spanish ("Caudillo Franco" sounds Spanish) you can check my channel where I made a tutorial for EU4 in Spanish (there is an episode dedicated to trade): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyWucVKaWbqDH75fhO1hrgHOVIkdE1AJ8

Thanks. Yes, my name is Caudillo Franco, but that's because my nickname is "Franco" and I guess my name gave me some affinity of a Fascist dictator :p. But yes, I studied Spanish for 2 years and I have a great knowledge of Romance languages (French, particularly) so I think I could view it.

I'd say get both?

Yea, just like with ReLee's granddaughters:

This is really weird: a discussion about what game I should get descends into a discussion about some ladies' boobs. I'm not complaining though, but it's just a tad strange. :p

Avoid the general forums and their weird posters. ;)
