Born on Rhea Station, G. Actura was a greasy monkey at an early age, spending much of his time assisting his father at his mechnical shop. When it came time that G. Actura was old enough to enlist he did. Serving first as an infantry grunt on the Rhea Station militia, G. Actura managed to work his way into the leadership's trust to be entrusted the position of pilot for one of the mechs, important for a small platform like Rhea Station. With war breaking out G. Actura is readying himself (and his mech) for duty.
Short Bio: Born among the earliest settlers of Saturn's moon Tethys, Bor Mallow and his childhood are inseparably linked to the development of the colony. And it for that, that Mallow likely developed his intense curiosity and love of learning; watching the very emptiness of space be conquered by the sheer technical will of Man was certainly a life-changing perspective.
He would not stay on Tethys forever, as his academic successes earned him scholarship to the premier learning institutions of Earth, from which he chose to attend at first Harvard University, and then later Tsinghua University. Entering into the field of sociology, Mallow developed for himself his own thoughts and theories, attempting to blend together the precision of mathematics with the irrationality and grandness of humanity. It was in this very pursuit that led him to Tsinguha in Beijing, for it was where he calculated the best results to observe society in one of its largest, teeming masses.
Branded as a fool by some, Mallow would nevertheless pioneer a field he referred to as "psychohistory", and from it would spawn a great many equations that were mostly arcane except to Mallow and those few he accepted under his tutelage. His efforts to prove the practical applications of psychohistory by implementing it into government were continually shot down, the organs of Earth unwilling to so brazenly sponsor a man who spoke in centuries, not electoral cycles. This fact is touted by Earth propaganda as the crux of Mallow's treason, his assistance to the Independent Colonial League labelled as petty revenge for a kook. More realistically though, the effects of his failures led Mallow to depart Earth at the head of his students.
Settling back on Tethys, Mallow would more easily worm his way into the colonial government and thus allow for greater studies of human populations, as contacts allowed him access to records beyond normalcy - everything the colonial government of Tethys knew, so would the Psychologists - voting records, income, household size, ancestry. And at his insistence, the colonial government probed further, and to the chagrin of bureaucrats, opened the floodgates of governmental census requirements and of more personal voluntary tests. Funding towards mental health was hailed as a victory for progress, but in actuality it was one of Mallow's many trojan horses into convincing a population to hand over their information.
And so it continued on Tethys, Mallow and his Psychologists helping craft policy with little to show for it but the promises of progress in the time when all alive now were buried, and their children buried. Earth propaganda depicts this period as one of cultish infiltration, the Psychologists levying hokum to further their supposed political agenda. In truth, politics were never a subject at the mind of Bor Mallow nor at the heart of his field. It was science, cold, passionless, precise.
But what cannot be contested is Bor Mallow indeed acted as one of the prime architects both in the secession of Tethys and of the Independent Colonial League as a whole, acting as a binding agent for the disparate movement. So much so that in his role, Mallow effectively became its seeder and future leader, his carefully worded message and correspondences gradually escalating the tensions between the colonists and the Earth government. With clear intent, Mallow massaged the movement, shaping it not into an uproar, but as a growing inevitability. It was not a matter of years, but of decades, and yet Mallow would deny altogether that his actions were political.
As to how, it was simple in Mallow's own words, he gave one of his few widely transmitted statements to the public. With no betrayal of passion, Mallow spoke with supreme confidence:
"What I did had to be done, and what I do now would always happen. This divide between the supreme position of the Earth government and the inferior position of the colonists, it is as plain as the Sun, when running my calculations. It was an inevitability, but the precise outcome was malleable. I have acted to reduce the negative impacts of this inevitability, to the point of involvement. Perhaps not the best science, but the sort that had to be done to minimize the horrors of this coming - death, disorder, and all such things."
It was a peculiar statement and not perhaps the one that either side expected. But it was his statement nonetheless and the local leaders of the movement and the Earth government spun it to mean whatever they wished. Some saw Mallow as a noble scientist who chose to intervene to save his own frontier peoples, while others saw him as a soothsayer. He cared little for public opinion, except in the instances of calculation.
Now the First Speaker - ironic, as he speaks very little - Mallow has been invested with the powers to utilize his supposed expertise in planning and accounting for humanity towards the fulfillment of the ICL's goals. And while not said in formal circles, it could be said that for some, Mallow makes the perfect puppet, a conduit to power. And even some would say that Mallow himself had no intention to push for the goals of the ICL, instead for whatever nebulous thing he had foresaw in his calculations.
Name: Admiral Jeffery Hawkins Faction: UEG Rank Preference: Rank 2 Short Bio: Born and raised on Lysithia, Admiral Hawkins always had an interest in space travel. As such, he joined the UEG navy. Rising in the ranks, after many years of dedicated service, he ended up as an Admiral. Traditionally serving as a desk officer at the HQ, he was recently placed in charge of the Reserve Fleet, which has sense been mobilized in the wake of the threat of war with the ICL. As someone from the Colonies, he is a touch sympathetic to the ICL cause, but in the end remains completely loyal to the UEG.
Name: Anton Cotte
Faction: ICL
Rank Preference: Rank 1
Short Bio: A colony born smuggler and pirate turned revolutionary, Anton Cotte is a man whose actions tend to speak louder than his words. While no fan of the central government on Earth by any stretch of the imagination, Anton was hesitant to get involved with the various independence groups that existed at the time, prefering to use his skills solely for his personal benefit. This changed after he witnessed the UEG's brutal suppression of peaceful protesters on Ganymede. After the incident, he was recruited by individuals who would later make up the core of the ICL's political leadership. He used his piracy background to help organize and lead several strikes against valuable UEG targets, but his most notable achievement was his assembling of an experienced core of pilots, soldiers, technicians, and researchers who would form the back bone of the ICL's military force. Now a de-facto Admiral at the head of his own fleet, Cotte will do whatever he believes is necessary to achieve colonial independence.
Everyone who has posted characters so far is accepted (Including Corman.) I'll work on stats for everyone tommorow and post up the proper game thread then as well.
Short Bio: Jad Attlee – perhaps better known as the Devil of Deimos – was born on the smallest of Mars’ moons to a mining family of decidedly modest means; he was their third child and youngest son. Jad’s lifelong involvement with the colonial separatist movement can be traced back to his very early childhood, when he was exposed to the rather extreme political views and ideology of his father, himself an influential leader within Deimos’ burgeoning separatist movement. Raised to regard those from the inner planets with distaste, resentment and even hatred, it is no surprise that Jad would become an intense advocate for the independence of the solar system’s colonies from the oppressive and exploitative government of Earth. When he was only sixteen, Jad and his family took part in a failed uprising on Deimos, a doomed attempt to kickstart a system-wide revolution – his father and older brothers were all killed by UEG marines before his very eyes, and Jad himself lost his right arm in the fighting. Despite his grievous wound, he managed to escape capture along with a handful of surviving separatists and their mechs, taking refuge among the familiar crags and crevices of the moon’s largely uninhabited surface.
The survivors of the uprising were bloodied, battered and beaten. However, when some among their number suggested that they surrender to the UEG forces hunting them down, Jad angrily and passionately objected, instead proposing that they continue to fight for their beliefs, and for the sake of those they had lost, so long as they still drew breath. Despite his youth, Jad’s ferocity and appeal to vengeance caused the survivors to look to him as their leader much like his father before him; at his insistence, the survivors formed the Dead Man Battalion, an organization of either guerrilla fighters or terrorists – it depended on who you asked. Semantics aside, for the better part of two decades the Dead Man Battalion fought in countless skirmishes and daring raids across the system, proving a constant (if minor) thorn in the side of the UEG as they carved a bloody path through federated space. A skilled and ruthless fighter, Jad has accumulated an impressive body count as a flying ace; moreover, he has also earned a reputation as a skilled commander. To this day he is fueled by a near-manic desire for revenge and an equally obsessive yearning for the freedom of “his people.”
Following the outbreak of war between the Independent Colonial League and the United Earth Government, Jad was offered command of a regiment in the ICL’s army in recognition of both his fighting ability and reputation as a tireless freedom fighter. Many veteran members of the Dead Man Battalion serve as his trusted lieutenants, assisting him in his new command. Together, they hope to take vengeance on the UEG and achieve independence for the colonies.
Kenny Blackwood, a young handsome man, has a colorful history despite of his young age. He was born in Titan, the biggest moon of Saturn, 26 years ago to a small family. Kenny's father worked as an independent merchant, shipping cargo between planets around the whole solar system. He also smuggled illegal items from time to time, just to "provide for his family". Sadly he used big part of his earnings on gambling and intoxicants.
Kenny received a basic level of education, but most of his youth he spent with his father. He learnt everything about spaceships: he loved them. He was always improving and fixing the family's craft with his father.
When Kenny was 17, his father died of overdose. Kenny's mother having no job and his little sister Mercia being too young to work, Kenny decided to continue his father's work. He used all of his spare money on the spaceship, making it extremely good one for both transporting cargo and fighting in battles. Unlike his father, Kenny never shipped illegal items. After many years of hard work, Kenny became a really well known pilot in his home moon.
With the war breaking out Kenny saw a great opportunity to increase his personal wealth and power. He volunteered as a pilot for the Independent Colonial League, ready to give up his old job. He was accepted in for his excellent skills. He also got to keep his own spaceship, it being no worse than most of the ICL's smaller spacecrafts.
Not really, within the time frame it'd take a solid 5-10 updates worth of orders to get one done, so I mean, you could, but it would take alot of time and effort
Name: General Chima Okafor
Faction: Independent Colonial League
Rank Preference: 2
Short Bio: Not born in the colonies, an emigre as a young man with a background as a terrestrial sailor and engineer on Earth. An adventurer who made his name leading the first subnautical expedition into Ganymede's inner ocean 200k beneath the surface and layers of icy silicate. Nigerian heritage, evangelical Protestant, burns on the right side from an ice-drilling accident. Affiliated with the Army of Galileo, drawing recruits from across the Jovian moons.
Name: Ono Satsuki
Faction: UEG
Rank Preference: 3
Short Bio: Ono came from the industrial slums and gutters of Mars, dedicated to proving that she was just as capable as the elites of her planet. Her best way of proving her worth was to join the military, and become an officer. While faced with opposition at every stage, she persevered through this thanks to her stubborn nature and made her way to officer training. While often getting into trouble with her commanders for her recklessness, aggressiveness and sometimes uncouth manners, her competence still made sure that she made it through in one piece and became a Major in charge of an armoured detachment. Of course, she was assigned to Lysithea on some boring garrison duty as a farewell present from her instructors.
Her rags-to-uniform story has made her into a staunch meritocrat, detesting incompetence and failure whenever she sees it. However, she respects those who are cunning, successful, and capable: No matter their background or allegiance. She sees war as a great equaliser, where all men and women can be tested and forged to see who are truly the strongest and most capable warriors.
She is also a proponent of Walking Armour, and considers it a great annoyance that the UEG has not properly invested in this new and awesome technology.
Biography: According to his official biography, Angurvadal was born on the agricultural moon of Ganymede to a family of innovative hydroponics farmers. The hydroponics concern quickly grew in prominence as a rare example of a successful local business in a field dominated by Earth corporations. Unfortunately, the competition was unwelcome, and the hydro-dome owned by his parents was burnt out by an oxygen fire that was blamed on faulty parts. Several other concerns experienced similar "inexplicable tragedies" that year and all remaining hydro-firms were consolidated under Earth control in the years following. Angurvadal was one of the few survivors of the fire, but was left badly burnt, and consequently has to live inside a life-support suit when not in his specially pressurized and sanitized chambers.
Subsequently, Angurvadal moved to Titan, where his quiet determination marked him for accelerated training in the colonial defense forces. He achieved renown when, piloting a prototype Zapa I, he single-handedly eliminated a group of pirates attempting to hold the colony for ransom by controlling its high orbitals. His "Viking ferocity" and the ominous red gleam of his visor won him the nickname "Blood Eagle" in the colonial press.
With his well-known grudge against Earth corporations, he's enlisted in the League military to achieve his long-awaited revenge and strike a blow for colonial liberty.
Name: Commandant Wolfgang "The White Wolf" Stadtbäumer
Faction: ICL
Rank Preference: Rank 3
Short Bio: Wolfgang Stadtbäumer was born to a family on Titan, his father being born in Germany and mother born on Titan. The Stadtbäumers were merchants on the colony and raised his son in a relatively prosperous lifestyle. Wolfgang never enjoyed his liberal education so as soon as he turned eighteen he enlisted in the UEG army. He quickly showed his strength and skill and was promoted to special forces. After a counter-terrorist operation on Earth his squad was selected by the eventual Grand Duke Friedrich to be the core of his heavy-handed police state as governor of Titan. Wolfgang rose to the rank of commanding the core squad of special forces on Titan which Friedrich christened in honor of Wolfgang's nickname "The White Wolf" the Wolf Brigade. The Wolf Brigade is one of the most skilled units in the Colonial League and is specialized in counter-terrorism, suppression of revolt, assassinations, and sabotage.
Bio: Born on Earth. Nykolay joined the governments intelligence services, after a brief stint serving in the Outer colonies he was appointed as one of the heads of Intelligence on Deimos. Unbeknownst to the authorities on Earth, during his time in the Outer Colonies Nykolay had fallen under the sway of the secessionists and worked on Deimos to help many potential rebels escape to the Outer Colonies. Now with the Secession official Nykolay has transferred himself to Thethys along with a small cadre of his former spy network. He hopes to use his his intelligence assets and connections throughout the Solar System to aid the efforts of the ICL.
Born on planet earth, Heather grew up in a normal family for the time. She was diligent in school and was seen as a normal girl among the fellow students, even if considered bright by her teachers. As she advanced through education she began to shine more. Her focus would however remain lost until she was car accident at the age of 19. Like so many other young people before her, and so many more to follow, she in her wisdom, was not wearing a seatbelt. The end result was that her face was smashed against various parts of the car, disintegrating much of her skull structure. She was quickly rushed to the hospital, where the surgeons worked for countless hours restructuring her skull back together. In the end they were forced to put thin pieces of metal over the bone and flesh, before reattaching the skin on top of it. On the good side, this now meant that she could take a proper punch.
She would spent the next year dealing with the immediate trauma and building herself back up, after which she started university with a new determination and interest. That of medicine, and more importantly, at least to her, research into the enhancement of the human body through the use of medicine, chemicals and surgical procedures. After she graduated, she moved to Tethys, where she was given a position at the Tethys Institute of Research, where she found much joy experimenting, and showing much prospect.
