It is the year 1997, but not our 1997. From the Rhine to the Ganges, the forces of the United Nations stare down the nations of the Axis Powers, locked in the fiftieth year of what has come to be called the "Cold War." Formidable wunderwaffen such as the rocket bomber, the Sentinel and the mecha are ominpresent in the arsenals of the Great Powers. Zeppelins and rocket aircraft deliver people and supplies to their destination in style and at unparalleled speeds. Swing is king and Art Deco still reigns supreme.

But not all is stable in the modern world. In Italy, the ideological heart of the fascist world, a younger generation is growing tired of the old system, and what happens there may shake the Axis to its core. Greater Germany, too, is riven between military conservatives and reformers in the DNVP. The democratic world, for its part, is on edge as fascist India asserts its growing economic and military strength. The Manchurian Soviet Republic, a ghastly and totalitarian remnant of the Soviet occupation of Japan, threatens the peace in East Asia for the Americans, the Chinese and the USSR alike. And worst of all, the Third Reich lives on in Antarctica and its secret lunar facilities, ceaselessly plotting and scheming to retake the homeland from the traitors and the untermenschen.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the new order.

SIGNUPS CLOSED - Game Start: 10/28/15
---

That's right, everybody, it's time for signups! Hi, I'm Scrapknight, your host and master of ceremonies for The New Order! Inspired by the sadly short-lived The Great War and many similar nation games, I've decided to put a twist on the format you all know and love. This game will be set in an alternate history, as you can hopefully tell by the introduction. Technology and society have developed in decidedly different directions, with the vision of the Jazz Age and the Second Great War living on. It's a world of pulp heroes and mad science, owing to media such as Indiana Jones, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Bioshock, Atomic Robo and the first Captain America. However, that doesn't mean that the struggles inherent in international politics can be solved by dashing heroes swooping in to save the day. The fight against the fascist menace / struggle for national liberation from decadent society (depending on who you ask) will not be easy to win, and it will take strategy and guile to to come out on top.

This is the thread where you're going to sign up for the nation you want to play! Your choices are as follows:

All these (and more)

Now that that's settled, here's how this is going to work. Please post the top 3 nations you are interested in. All Great Powers have now been assigned, so please select 3 minor powers. I will try my best to give everyone their first choice, but may need to roll for when there are ties. There will be a total of 22 slots, meaning that each Great Power and the rogue states will be filled, plus ten minor powers. While I can't guarantee how many minor powers each alliance will have, it will be balanced (the rest will be filled by neutral states.)

While selection of players is first decided by choice and then by chance, I am more likely to give you a country on your list if:
1) You helped me develop lore for that country / the game generally
2) You pick an interesting minor power

That means if your choices are Luxembourg, Ghana and Spain, in that order, you may be up a metaphorical creek.

With that being said, signups will either run until Saturday 8 PM PST or when I have all the slots filled, whatever comes first. In the meantime, lore updates and a global alliance map will be going up on the interest check thread. You'll find more lore and outlines of the stats in the game there. Once signups and those things are done, I will make the stats and we'll get started!

Until then, friends...

Choices, choices...

In the order of GP, rogue, and minor; not order of preference:

I. The UK
II. I like both a lot. But in deference to Aedan's surprisingly decent theological write-up of Positive Christianity, I'll go with Manchuria
III. Really, just throw the African monarchies in a hat and pick me one. Zanzibar is the one I've spent the most time on; but Morocco could be really fun, same with Ethiopia, the CAE, etc

ETA: also, I hope it is obvious that a PC Vatican that isn't played by me would be staggeringly unacceptable.

ETA Mk II: Adding Brazil as a potential choice, although only if it's a monarchy (like it should be)
