I vote for a fighter strike if possible, with the gunships behind storming in and taking out the rest.

Why waste the missiles? They have PD too ;)

We'll want to disable, immobilize and bypass the Sarthe.

Once it drifts out beyond the protective envelope of the Gards and Vosges, we can attempt to board it.

That will mean bringing up the Boarding Shuttles before-hand.

I was thinking of holding off with the Fighters in case a THIRD missile squadron shows up.

Over-watch.

With a apologies for the timing of my reply,

Mmmmno, hummers have these amazing dive patterns.

Yeah, they’re swimming around like domesticated swans in a children’s tv show. :p

Or a blue emu whose apartment has been flooded? ;)

:D
"Hum-mingbird" since "Hum" is a common sound to indicate thinking (and it was a farfetched reach for the H in
)

The Carrier Force has arrived in position, but we are withholding our Fighter Strikes in case more of these lunatics show up.

Our usual force of Gunships - and three Sabre squadrons totaling 11 Sabres (plus support) - are also within a few hundred million km.

Our PD fleet will continue to draw fire until it seems likely that the Modrons have emptied their magazines.

Then the Gunships will move in for the kill.

LOL.

The AMM-PD ship in our PD Fleet that took a hit disabling one of their magazines has got it fixed already.

The damage must have just been to the missile auto-loader, rather than the magazine storage itself.

Note that their ammo is gone.

That's because a fire in the magazine causes either an explosion or a SCRAM (dumping the missiles over-board before they can cook off).

The Boarding Parties are still a billion km behind the line of contact.

One could argue that we should hold off on the Gunships vs Red 2 battle until the Boarding Parties are close enough to swoop in and board the Sarthe.

The enemy Red 2 fleet won't allow our PD fleet any closer than 120 million km.

It turns away each time we approach closer than that.

So we're detaching the slowest ships, to raise the fleet speed of the PD fleet from 8,500 to 10,500 kps.

Let's see of that allows us any closer.

I'm trying to get the Deux-Sevres to cough up any missiles they might still have in magazine.

Does that include the Admirals? Seems to me the damaged one doesn't have anything left to contribute to the PD screen after that so might as well send it home for repairs and rearming.

I'm detaching the eight Blazes (8,558 kps) and the slowest eight Storms (9,000+ kps).

Sending them over to guard the Carriers (6,700 kps).

The rest of the ships can all make 10,500 kps.

The boarding parties are still 850 million km behind the action, but that should be close enough. They have an insane range (1.2 billion km).

Launching.

It will take about two hours and fifty minutes for them to reach the battle-space.

Won't laughing them already risk them running out of fuel before the Sarthe is disabled?

They'll arrive in the battle zone with about 350 million km worth of fuel remaining.

The Admirals (or the Carriers) can refuel them anyway. I've included extra fuel tankage and a set of pumps in the ship design.

I'm committing the Gunships now.

The Gunships are at 210 million km and closing in on Red 2.

The Boarding Parties are arriving in the combat zone and heading over to refuel from one of the Admirals.

Very nice. Loving the fact that we're commencing offensive operations against them now. Finally we get to dictate the terms of engagement.

Of course, they might still have surprises for us.

If those last two Lot-et-Garonne have been saving their missiles, they could wreck a few Gunships during our approach.

Not enough to change the course of the battle, though.
