PAVAO SCHOLARI THE LOYALIST​

The war versus The Kingdom of Sicily:
The Dukes reputation as brave warrior, was partly tarnished, when he displayed cowardice on the battlefield of glory (lol) in the year 1131. In the meantime, the duchy of Karanten was constantly changing allegiance. After they have defected from Germany, they joined France and just three months after that, they were part of the Kingdom of Sicily. That brought them into a strong position, to declare war upon us. So in the time, in which the count had a son (Grugur) and was keeping great relations with his count (Which brought him the title loyalist. I rock!), they were plotting a war against us. On the start of the year 1132 they declared war upon the Duchy of Vegila (The first province taken by us from Croatia).

The loyalty to our King was repaid by his assistance in the war. As trough it was small, it greatly assisted us in our war effort (The help was only secondary, because the war versus Byzance was still raging. Our duke didnt participate in the war, because he was, deployed somewhere in the Ukraine to battle the Russian Byzantines). There were 5 major battles in the war (I displayed the 3 biggest). Bad organization of units on the battlefield and major numbers of the enemy, saw us mostly as losers. But we were able to defend Veglia. But Rama and Belgrade were captured by the enemy on 10th and 14th June 1132. But in August luck was on our side. We have liberated the province Rama. This was when the Kingdom of Sicily was willing to start peace negotiations. On first September 1132 peace was concluded. We had to pay 120 gold.

The war versus Byzance comes to an end:
On 18th June a daughter of the Duke died. But in the time he was still away somewhere in the Belorussian forests. Another duke has joined our realm on 1st December 1133 (Gnieznienskie). Finally peace came into Kingdom of Hungary, with the peace treaty singed on 3rd March 1135. With this the 15 year war versus Byzance ended. There was no clear victor, but Hungary gained like 4 provinces (So I guess we have won). On 8th March 1135 the county of Varazdin defected from Hungary. The duke has by the time already returned to his county, and has immediately declared war upon them. The war was over after 3 months, and our realm grew for another province.

The years of peace:
On 22th September 1136 the duke had another daughter named Berta. But 2 years later a stillborn child has been born. This was truly a sad news indeed. On 23 April 1139, the Duke has inherited the county of Gelre and a bunch of titles. He inherited them from Ninoslav count of Gelre (Who was that again lol?). On 29th September another heir was born. He was named Damjan (Those bastards and heirs, have all been put to good use. They are counts in the duchy. Since our Duke cant hold, because his low intrigue skill). On 17th July 1140 the count of Vidin has accepted our vassalization offer (This vassalization offers are a great way to expanding your realm. Since there is no relations lose like in the EU games, you just keep trying, till the dumb AI accepts lol).

PAVAO SCHOLARI THE LOYALIST part 2​

Times of more or less peace:
After the war with Byzance was over, the Hungarian king continued his crusade, versus the Pagans in Russia. The Duke was very ill in the meantime, and was therefore not able to participate in the campaigns (Hate to follow wars, in which I even cant even see the battles). But the illness was not so tragic, since it could be healed by a miracle healer. But the King of Hungary was not so lucky. He died on 13th January 1143. On 11th January 1144 the Bosnian Dukedom of Usora has defected from HRE. The Duke used the chance and declared war upon the country. He won the war and took control of Usora on 13th July 1144 (I didnt had enough prestige, to claim the title Duke of Bosnia, but when I had 100 gold I just made me the Duke of it lol). On 28th August 1145 the oldest heir reached adult status (Evtimmi Scholari).

The Meckenburg wars:
Halfway trough the 12th Century, The chiefdom of Meckenburg was the only Pagan state left in Central Europe. Because of their religion, they were a thorn on the side of the Greater Papal state of Westphalia. But the pope could currently not finish them,upon the chiefdom), to the county of Vegila so they would declare war upon them and drive us into the conflict. The war started on 20th October 1145. We lost the first battle because the superior numbers of the enemy (1:4). But soon an army of 4000+ men has been mobilized (With some Basque mercenaries in its ranks). because he was in a war, with the HRE (And he is kicking ass LOL !!!). So he arranged a conflict, which would lead the Duchy of Austria into a war with the chiefdom. He paid a large sum of money (This is a story part, nothing of this really happened. But it is true, that my vassal, the count of Veglia declared war

It soon came to a showdown, in the capital province of the Chiefdom of Meckenburg (Guess which province is that lol).The army was led by the oldest heir Evtimmi (This would be only the begging of his military carrier). Evtimmi defeated Wratislaw-the leader of the chiefdom in mortal combat (LOL...). With this, he effectively weakened the morale of the enemy army, and won the battle. On 17th February 1147 Meckenburg has fallen to us. The Chiefdom has accepted the peace our peace proposal, in which we were given the province Meckenburg (Im getting tired of the word Meckenburg). But that was not enough for the Pope. He organized another incident. This time it was with the help of the county of Krain, which forced us into a war with them. The war started on May and ended already in June (The army was not yet disbanded), with the province Hamburg being seceded to us. Later that year, the King of Hungary has also seen his part of the action in the area. He conquered the province Lubrec and Rootstock. Bremen was the only province, the Chiefdom would remain in control of, till their final war some decades later. The war has greatly tarnished our reputation.

The great Middle Eastern war:
On 13th May 1148, Byzance asked us to join into an alliance with them, since they hared about our acts of bravery in Meckenburg. The alliance was accepted. Byzance needed the alliance, because an increasingly stronger Seljuk Turk Sultanate, was at the very doorstep of the city Constantinople. On 9th March 1150 Byzance has asked us for support in the defense of their lands. An army of 3000 men, under the command of Evtimmi was immediately sent to their aid. In an epic battle in the province Dorylasion, he has fought an defensive battle against more than 8000 Muslims under the lead of Najib (This battle you see, is only the biggest one. There were at least 5 battles, with the Muslims constantly sending reinforcements in. We also got reinforcements by Byzance). But the defense was futile. The Christian army was fully destroyed. After the destruction of his army, Evtimmi had to return to Austria. We were not able to help Byzance anymore. After the Muslims have defeated our army, they have occupied (I would write conquered, but the lands were not theirs) whole Turkey. Their victory was complete with the fall of Byzance on 16th April 1152.

Facing the thereat of a Jihad, the Hungarian king came to the help of Byzance (In the meantime our Duke became the duke of Pecs. This is informative because it will have a greater importance in the next update). The united Christian armies (Byzantine, Hungarian and Russian Byzantines) totaling 14000 men, have freed the city on 17th December 1152. But this victory came with a sacrifice. The king of Hungary died when the city was stormed. But the acts of bravery, committed by Evtimmi, were not forgotten. On the end of 1152, the kingdom of France and Sicily both wanted to join them into an alliance. Seeing us as equal partners in the fight, against the darkness called Paganism and Islam.

where are you planning to expand next? are you intending to make a kingdom at some point? its boring being a duke all the time :)

PAVAO SCHOLARI THE LOYALIST part 3​

The curse that is loyalty:
As before mentioned, the duchy of Pecs has declared Independence from the kingdom of Hungary (12th May 1152). As a loyal servant of the king, Pavao (Which didn't had much to do, since the defeat versus the Seljuk Turks) has decided to show them with who are they dealing with. The first province (The duchy had 2 provinces),has fallen on the 1st April 1154. Soon after that, the siege of the second province began. After the first 10 days of the siege, a message arrived from the king of Hungary. He said that the kings demands, that the duchy is finished off as soon as possible. Pavao has prepared the assault, which commenced on 21st April. The castle has fallen as our duke. He was hit by an arrow, while climbing the castle war. His dead body has fallen in a nearby swap and was never found. His successor was Evtimii Scholari.

Times of disloyalty:
The new ruler was not well accepted as the new ruler of the dukedom. Disloyalty started to spread an it should soon bear fruit. The county of
Heves and Hum, have defected from the dukedom (Both 2 province duchies). After numerous combats, the county of Hum has again became a part of the dukedom on 10th April 1159. The county of Heves has also been "liberated", but this time, it was the king of Hungary itself, which was responsible for that. At that point he betrayed the duke, by annexing the realm for himself, although it was originally ours. The duke had no other choice as to accept the outcome. Other defections have been prevented trough undetected and successful political assassination. Also other news reached us in the meantime. The order of the Teutonic knights, was reestablished in the province of Memel on 13th March 1156.

Evtimii Scholari the Brave heart:
Evtimii Scholari was already a very familiar name in most of Europe. He has already merged victorious out of many battles and always fought to the bitter end (With this he achieved many phyric victories for the Muslims). Soon after he has taken his rightful place, he joined the holy crusade. On the side of king of Hungary, he spent few years kicking some Muslim ass (Although it was also told he displayed ineptitude on the battlefield once, what nonsense?!).

We also want a share!:
On second September 1162 Dragshan Scholari the firstborn son of Evtimii Scholari has become an adult. With this the succession would be secured if there were not some other problems. Dragshan was not the only son of Evtimii. Those other sons demanded that the land should be partitioned equally between them all, after their father would die. As any wise leader, Evtimii called the guards which were ordered to give a royal beating, to his sons. Well one year later, his oldest son got mad. With this Evtimii could kick his own ass.

Hatred, war and more hatred:
In the year 1166 Evtimii and his wife were officially as much divorced, as somebody could be divorced in the 12th century. One month later the king of Hungary again requested assistance in his war of aggression against the Papal state. Evtimii declined. He was brave, but not necessarily loyal. But the pope also didn't fell any love for him, so Evtimii just had him assassinated (Being brave doesn't mean also being fair). But the assassination had no influence on the war, since it was easy to find another warmonger pope.

​

Lets purge the heretics for once and for all:
Since there was not much to do Evtimii, gather an army an marched to wards Bremen to finish what his father started. This was the last place where the old pagans of Mecklenburg were living (21st February 1168). After the arrival and a short siege the pagans were defeated (30th April 1168). With this he could also make him the Duke of Mecklenburg.

EVTIMII SCHOLARI THE BRAVE HEART​

The Croatian civil war:
The first years after the new Duke has taken over were peaceful, atleast for the Duchy alone. The realm has seen stability improvements. Gained county of Frisia by peaceful means. But the duke although a capable ruler has started to be more and more depressed. So he decided that it was time to join another war. In the meantime in Europe a war was going on between the Greater Papal state and the Kingdom of Hungary. And also over all Europe a conflict was brewing which shall erupt in a all versus all war, which would least for the next decades.

The Duke has joined the war versus the Papal state on the side of Hungary (Unlucky for the current spy master which was killed in battle). With heroic effort he has ended the siege of Pressburg (The capital of the kingdom of Hungary) and after that joined his king, in his war of aggression. Well in the meantime, the Dukedom of Croatia has defected from the HRE which was in chaos and in a constant war with Sweden (Which would become a part of the great conflict).

There were 2 factions in the conflict, the loyalists and the nationalists. The nationalists wanted a free rule and were located in Senj. The loyalists were located in Zachlumia and wanted to join the Kingdom of Sicily. The duke decided to help the nationalists, since he didn't want the Italians to acquire more land and also wanted to acquire more land for himself. The war has de facto begun on 14th February 1175. On 16th March the army of the duchy of Austria arrived in the land of the Loyalists. 1 day later the kingdom of Sicily declared war upon us and the nationalist faction. On the first April the Duchy of Croatia has joined the kingdom of Sicily. Without the support of the Kingdom of Hungary, we would not be able to continue the war. On 10th may the loyalists have fallen and the nationalists have successfully formed a free county of Senj. But they still had internal conflicts and were forced to join the Dukedom of Austria on 9th July (Atleast they were under a Slavic rule). The war with Sicily ended after a short siege of our capital, where we had to pay 2000 gold (Well if I could buy a province for 1000 gold I would, so it was a good exchange). Well with those provinces gained,Evtimii could declare himself the duke of Croatia.

The Scholari heir twins:
Dragshan Scholari had 2 sons, which were twins. The only thing on the start, which made a difference between them, was that one was Hungarian-Janos Scholari (the older one) and one was south Slavic-Nikodim Scholari. They were both the first in the line to inherit the dukedom of Austria. On 17th September 1175 Dragsan Scholari died (Mad and depressed lol). Just 2 days later the Duke of Austria died by neutral means (This makes him the first king which died by neutral means). With that Janos Scholari the first ruler which was not South Slavic, has taken over the realm when he was just 3 years old. With this one of the most catastrophic rulings ever should begin.

I had in one game a odd rival, a threee year old duke.
Maybe I stole some of his toys, I have no other reasons why that baby would have been mad at me. :D

Disasters are allways interesting, and recovering frome those also.
 


JANOS SCHOLARI THE WEAK​

The weak:
His first act after he has become duke, was to give the county of Krain and Istria to his younger brother. Not because he was a good person, but because he was too incapable to rule a larger realm. On 19th September the war versus the Papal state has ended. The Hungarians were victorious and were given the following counties: Altmark, Gottingen, Braunschwieg and Julingen. The papal state was defeated but not beaten. On 17th July the Duke was wounded in a hunting trip with the King of Hungary. Although this gave him a forever lasting friendship with the king, it also has bounded him to the bed till the rest of his life. Soon he got ill and even sooner the illness worsened to a Pneumonia. His weak state, had very soon negative effects on the whole realm.

Not fit for a king:
The Great war in Europe has begun somewhere on the start of 1180. The main theatre of the war was between the Kingdom of Sweden VS Kingdom of Sicily VS Kingdom of Hungary VS Kingdom of Scotland and Kingdom of Germany and Poland were also minor participants. A great chance has offered itself to occupy the Dukedom of Dioclea. Since the Duchy was a part of Kingdom of Sweden and thus had all its armies drawn out the help their king. Without any major effort Ragusa (9th February 1181) and Zeta (16th February 1181) have fallen. The provinces became a part of our realm. The only problem which staid was to conclude peace with the Kingdom of Sweden. But after one major battle which we have won, a pure money deal could be concluded. Theoretically we could declare us the kingdom of Serbia, but with a weak leader on the throne, we were nowhere near the position to do that. Later, the King of Hungary declared himself the King of Serbia. With that our chance to declare us a kingdom was over, but there should soon be a new one (Damn the weak leader, good for nothing person).

The Rashka revolt:
On 23th January 1186, the vassals of the Duke have demanded elective law to be enacted, since the incapability of the Duke to rule. The duke declined the demand. This made the duke of Rashka really angry and he revolted against the Duke. It took much blood to take the duchy down. On the end the county was forced to become our vassal again on 18th August 1187 (Our reputation was even so tarnished enough).

​

Death:
The Duke became an adult on 2nd July 1188. He married a daughter of the Duke of Split on 8th July 1188. And finally died 29th July in his wedding night (It took weeks in the medieval times to travel somewhere). The realm was taken over by his brother Nikodim Scholari. His brother became an adult on 22th April 1189. He looked exactly the same as his dead brother, so it was the same, as there never was a new king (I told you they were twins lol).

NIKODIM SCHOLARI THE STRONG​

The strong:
With the help of the holy Catholic church and some heretic Jewish money lenders, the situation in the country has quickly stabilized. The unloyal vassals which demanded feudal contract, were bribed (I finally found out the power of money. The force is with me). He was a bit more successful at hunts, as was his dead brother, which got the wound from there which would proof fatal after 14 year. And connections with other realms were also made. Mostly notably with the kingdom of Georgia (Go Russia!!!). The realm was also expanded. The county of Vidin has accepted the vassalisation on 23th February 1190. In the meantime a hell of a war was going on in Europe (I will represent the results in the year 1200).

His first 3 wifes:
His first wife, was Dubravka von Pernstein (22th June 1192). She was the wife of his dead brother (Like I had the time to search for a new wife). And not to mention that she got the plague (Why me god, why me :eek: :eek: :eek: ???!!!). She was the daughter of the duke of Dubrovnik. A territory which we would try to get no matter the cost. Well she died pregnant on 26 December 1192).

​

Just 2 months after the death of his first wife, the Duke has married for the second time. This time he married the daughter of the count of Hradec Karlove (11th January 1193). After one year, she has not yet born any children, but she was spending quite some time, with a young bachelor. The king comforted her about it, and it seemed they were able to talk things out. One year later (6th February 1195), the first child of the duke was born. It was a daughter named Milka. On 8th November 1198, a second daughter was born named Elena. That disappointed the duke, since he wanted a male son, which would be a heir to the dukedom. Soon after that, the duke spent quite some time, with a daughter of a neighbor ruler. And his wife, also had lovers, which were exiled. But the lover of the duke, had her own plans. She made the duke assassinate his own wife, in oder to get up the hierarchy. The wife of the duke, was heavily wounded in the attack (24 October 1201). 6 days after the attack she died.

​

Efrosiana Scholari, the daughter of the count of Moravia and the lover of the Duke, soon became his wife after the death of his second wife. She has finally born him a male son named Kalojan (Sweet old memories :cool: ).

Hail to the great kingdom of Ireland (WTF!!?):
With the realm stabilized, the Duke has begun to think of more ambitions objectives. The top priority was to make make one of the mightiest duchies in Europe, a kingdom. On 18th April 1197 he has claimed the title the king of Ireland (What can I do? The kingdom of england has like 3 provinces, but it costs me 1500 prestige to claim the title. This Sux). The conflict was long and exhausting. The kingdom of Ireland had 2 provinces. The one in Ireland has been taken easily on 18th November 1198. But the one in France, was difficult to take, since the siege was lasting over 3 years, with constant battles. The luck finally switched to our side, when the Duke himself arrived, on the filed of battle. He has defeated the king of Ireland and brought the castle to fall. on 14th February 1200, peace has been singed. The Dukedom of Austria, became the Kingdom of Ireland (I also got the commander displayed great skill on the battlefield event, but I think, it is more intersting for you to see the battles).

Ah, lovers sometimes make the game more interesting. Especially when they want to kill your ugly wife. :cool:

Funny that some dukes create great kingdoms, while some kingdoms get totalyl destroyed, or some kings end up being the count of Bornholm while still owning many kingdom titles. :D
 
Now I understand why Scolari is such a winning character!
