slow, jerky movements in EU

When I try to run EU on my computer, I get in to the game, but it is very slow and jerky. For example, I will move my mouse, but the cursor on the screen will not move until about a minute later. The game runs very, very slowly and is impossible to play.
My system-
AMD Athalon 950mhz processor
20GB of memory
128mb of RAM
Windows ME
Also, the game ran fine on a much slower computer (Pentium II 233mhz with 10GB hard drive space and 64mb of RAM with Windows 98) but it will *not* run correctly on mine. I have de-fraged my hard drive, run ScanDisk, uninstalled and re-installed the game, downloaded and installed the 1.09 patch, and tried running the game with no music, but it still will not work. I paid $50 for this game so I am very frudtrated it is not working correctly. If anyone knows whats wrong and how I could fix it, it would be a *big* help.
 
I killed all programs in the background except for Explorer and Systray by using CTRL+ALT+DEL and then starting the game. Nothing different happened. Could you please tell me how to update my video drivers? I think that might be it. If you could, I would appreciate it very much.
 
I have this problam too, but it starts of ok and in about a minute the jerky movements turn into a complete freeze.
For me, I have a Voodoo 5 instead of a video card, it does reduce 2D games performance to an extent, but if this is the problam, never this much.
