I'm kinda confused at amount of "Purge xenos" and Warhammer 40,000K references .-. I do understand that most of it is just kidding, but it seems like lot of people just want to have dev diary on genocides ;P

Though, I guess you don't have to play as humans to play as dogmatic xenophobic empire, but I assume with Warhammer references that most people refer to that <_<

Anyway, I guess its just too "alien" mindset to me since I love playing as weird aliens space games provide :p Plus screwing over humans as alien is just fun. Like seriously, if choices are zerg and humans, its much more fun screwing humans over with zerg than otherwise. Humans just bomb and burn the hives while zergs eat and infest everything with superior numbers, swarming is much more fun than nuking stuff from orbit. Hive all the way for me xD

(This thread might also be kinda related to that I find it bit sad that, if I understood right, humans are only species that have multiple portraits because developers know majority are going to play as them :'D Since I myself am in minority that plays least with humans in these types of games)

Almost everyone, probably, sooner or later. If the question is phrased like "as your first try" then my answer is: not me at least.

I plan to eventually play as the Humans; first game will definitely be Fungoids. Most likely not my first or second game, however I do see the appeal of creating a human-centric galactic polity in this setting.

I guess I should have worded it better as "Mostly as humans"? <_< I mean, I'd imagine everyone is going to try out options at least xD Human options are probably the one most people will try out at least once(since people tend to assume human option is the "default" gameplay wise xP Since thats how human factions are designed in most space 4x games), but I'm curious about how many players are only going to play as humans or majority of their playthroughs as them.

It depends on how customasible will be appearence of species as it means a lot for me and I'd like to play my first game as kind of an elvish race and to pure the Galaxy from all "inperfect" species.

I find it difficult to play as races that are not human, or at least related to humans. I find it pretty hard to internally justify the motivations of truly alien creatures I know nothing about, short of resorting to pretty tired tropes I'm not creative enough to flesh out well (to myself lol). And if I play them using human ideas and foibles then I may as well just play as a human.

Savanna apes are easy though, and I know what motivates them, what makes them afraid and what they believe (in the context of the four ideology scales in Stellaris) etc. So I know how a united humanity of a given ideology would react to a given situation. That's just my personal hangup though.

Give me a race of robots any day though :D

I nearly always play these sort of games as Humans... I might dabble with an Alien race here or there, but at the end of the day, Humans is where it's at

I think I'll definitely play fungoid first, I mean who doesn't want to reproduce with spores? Or have living ships(?)

I will play: 1) Fanatic xenophobic, militaristic Molluscs; 2) fanatic collectivist, xenophile anthropoids; 3) Fanatic militarist, materialist reptilians; 4) Fanatic materialist, xenophobic Fungal aliens; 5) Xenophobic, militarist, collectivist ( or spiritualist) Humans.

Genocide with 1 and 5, Enslavement with 3 and 4, "peaceful" annexation with 2.

I'll play with humans last after having learnt how to play and properly purge the galaxy, I want to explore the exotic races first and explore all the game mechanics, I want to save humanity for last.

The 40K crowd are a bit childish like the kiddy setting itself. One would think this was a COD forum and not Paradox.

Most 4x games allow for conquering minor races what is interesting here is you can do more.

I will start by playing as humans. Only after I'm finished, I'll play as either reptilians or some cool looking mammalians (no teddy bear-like aliens allowed). Then I will play as this:

My first play through will be humans, benign, and exploration focused, try to form a federation. Basically Start Trek fantasy. Once that campaign is done, Cthulhu... wormholes of darkness will engulf the galaxy.

I will definitely give them a play eventually but I think for my first few games I'll be playing as one of the other different species, mammalian included.

I think the first species I'm going to play is a parasitic fungoid if possible. In Developer Diary 2 it is mentioned that you can play as a parasite species that enslaves other species in order to advance into the space age, so I think I'm going to try an create a Borgish hivemind of mushrooms.

Same, except my second species will be fungoids. I like to be good guy Shepard in my first playthrough of most games.
