After turning my back on Steal Division, I noticed Wargame : Red Dragon is still up and running and quite lively.

In fact, the activity there (in the game) seems to be several times higher than in Steal Division.

This game... I just had a battle and of course, after 5 minutes I was up against 2 medium AI in a 10vs10. Such a joy...

So, people, feel free to come back to Wargame:Red Dragon. Or at least explore the Wargame series if you havent already.

Sad thing, really. Many of the features of Steel Division were developed and asked for by the Wargame community over the course of 4 years. EUGEN now stole them to make a WWII game which has little of what made Wargame great and classic.

I can only hope, that this adventure will stick with only one abysmal title and EUGEN realize they can really only do one thing: WARGAME.

Last night, I did check into Red Dragon and was a bit surprised by the number of players. It was later in Pacific Standard time but there was something like 280 Steel Division players. When I checked RD, there were 555 players.

That being said, while I do enjoy the under-represented Cold War era more, I enjoy the style of Steel Division's games more.

One can hope we might see something like "Steel Division: 1955" or something like that.

People quitting is nothing unique to SD. I played a 10v10 in RD last night and within 20 minutes it was more like 5 vs 5...

Thing is... in Red Dragon it keeps beeing human vs. human.
I dont know who ever had that abysmal idea of replacing human leavers with an AI....

Giving allied units to random teammate is much worse. AI in SD is pretty normal (much better than in WRD) and can hold the line. Deleting player completely with unit transfer in SD due leaves or disconnects would make such matches almost unplayable.

AI is just an onslaught of units racing towards you lol.... if I want to play a Zombie game I dont buy Steal Division.
In fact I cannot stand it when fundamental changes like this are made in a game and you cannot get your money back anymore, haha.

But well. its not the worst point. Too bad Steel Division could not compete with Wargame in the slightest. Too narrow concept. wargame players are just used to have more of a sandbox experience.

I'm not a fan of that either. I mainly play 1v1 now, but I hate it when I play 3v3 or 4v4 and the enemy player on my front leaves, so I end up fighting an AI. In my opinion SD is a big improvement over Wargame, but I liked the WG system of the remaining players on the team sharing the leaver's income. I assume that would be a bit tricky to implement in SD, though, considering decks have different incomes.

Wargame players like boring crap.

I will say that Wargame matches do tend to fall into some repetitive patterns (heavy tank in same forest every match...) that can be frustrating. But, there is something to be said for the periods covered by Wargames. I'm a World War II buff as much as anyone else, but it's also been done to death. I like SD'44 but these same mechanics applied to the Wargame eras would be amazing. Outside of the great looks of the engine, the time frame was the major reason I bought the Wargame series years ago.

If you avoid any topic that's been "done to death" those topics will never have new and interesting games about them, though.

Ok?

1. The active player base has risen. The wait for a game to start has decreased.

2. Who plays 10vs10? Meat wall game...

3. Of course, there are things need fixes. The new crit system is crap, making it to hard to kill tanks and repair is to cheap. But if they fix that the game is awesome. Breakthrough game mode shows that the game is developing in the right direction, now there is a defined attacker and defender which makes it more tactical.

As i said if before and i say it again, its really unbeliveble that the system works for 2vs2-4vs4 games and that U*gen didnt put the littlest effort to add an option to turn it off and on in settings of 2vs2-4vs4 games.

Again a wrong decision on "listening the community",ye they listened to the 10 vs 10 guys(10 vs 10 games seems dead for real in SD now) and the 2vs2-4vs4 team players also got _ucked by it.
I really cant imagine a competitive, tournament like 3vs3-4vs4 matches and 1 guy disconnecting and his team getting AI,just a bad meme imo.

And ye,welcome back TankGirl :).

Geez, with such SLOOOOOOOW support and patching we'll wait for fixes forever.
I even want to say more. Fresh patch doesn't make game better. Thanks god, most radical and weird changes weren't implemented.

Breakthrough game mode is so broken and unbalanced (for attackers) now, it's just not worth to play.
Same goes for Close Combat mode. It's pretty okay mode, but most players doesn't like it, games with such mode is rarely seen in lobby. But wise devs decided to force us to love it through making Close Combat mode obligatory for ranked. Very debatable change I had to say...

I have not played 10v10 for a long time, but I can imagine it's completely unplayable since they added 16LW, lol. It felt like a game of target practice for the Germans already when I played it.

Atm 10vs10 is mostly unplayable cause you lack 20 average players no matter which side you are. There are huge level disparities i see new names every time. Allied players if they good enough may easily rush panzer decks in A and make points. Games are won both sides.
16LW is not really played much, i rarely see one in 10vs10 if i'm not picking it myself so it's not game breaking. But imo you couldn't have more than one or two in a 10vs10 or you would jepoardize your team.

And who's going to be the publisher of this new theoretical Wargame?

I'm sorry if this shatters your world view, but Wargame is also pretty much a commercial failure as a series at this point. It's a very niche game that was abandoned by the vast majority of its owner base within days of starting to play - and most of this owner base bought the game while heavily discounted! That's why Eugen had to find a different publisher for SD44 to begin with.

But really, "Wargame 4" supporters have consistently shown themselves to be divorced from reality - expecting that new games can apparently gush forth out of a magic jar without funding from previously successful titles. That's why they are seriously the only Game Community that I know of which tries to brag about its 1,000 concurrent user base instead of realizing it's basically the equivalent of a guy who's been trapped in a coma.

OTOH this is also the same community that wants to pretend that meme-spamming is more important than people who actually try and help teach the game, so really why should they expect anyone to want to play with them?

Well for me SD44 is much more better game than any previous Wargame but offer fewer choices and its looks limited when u choose divisions compare to wargame. Still I have more fun playing SD than WG maybe because I prefer WWII or maybe because I meet many arrogant people when I played wargame.
