It's a game I keep coming back to. As with Victoria, Crusader Kings and Hearts of Iron 2 (the other Paradox games I play) I go through months of not playing but always end up going back.
It's the same with me. Last year I bought a new computer (my old pc was 7 years old) so I could play new games. But after a while I started playing my old games again. Some weeks ago I started playing EU2 again. It looks horrible on my big screen, but it's still awesome. I was thinking about buying EU3, but I don't think I will love it as much as EU2, so I have not bought it yet.

In fact I start to play EU2 in 2005. I try EU3 but I was very displeased from 3D map and from battle system - it was too easy to capture the fort - even bigger one and after a month a decide to install again EU2. Same was with Rome. Also I recomended EU2, HOI2 and Victoria (she was quite unbalanced game with awful graphic but the population migration and a lot of resourses are big chalange if you play with a small nation - I always use political map only). So for me the good games of paradox is Eu2 and HOI2 (we spend a lot of hours in MP and in SP mode on it).
I should try HOI3 one day (just for the experience), but after first or second patch or even after first expansion (I'm quite unsure how to react when I saw pictures and other things in the scenarios). After that the game is 3D which is not the best option about the strategy game. After 2006 all game producer accenting in graphic not in simulation with small exception in order to produce mix between 3D action and strategy and I'm deeply disappointed about that - in fact after 2007 I do not play new strategy (RTS was exception) due to my dissppoinment about it.

In fact i have spend more of my free game time with two games: EU2 and HOMM3.

You do know you can alter the resolution in settings.csv, right? :)

Ahhhhh, those are some awesome games indeed... :) :)

Add in Morrowind and Civ 2 to that list and I don't even want to know how many hours I have spent on all those games. It's insane.

There are still MP games going on? Good to know... I'll see if I can make it to one.

I kind of miss the good ol' days, where i steamrolled some nation online and managed to emerge triumphant!

But EU2 is too much time consuming online and that is a goddamn problem.

Add to that smaller game issues that usually slow down the game, and you rarely make more then 30 years in 4 hours.

Time consuming, yes. 30 years in a session, yes. Actually likely less, in case of lots of wars. But that's not necessarily bad. It makes you more able to put your heart and attention into your nation.

At the moment I'm cooling my heels waiting for AAR attention. There is none, which is unfortunate, because four months ago I got replies.
A tip: place a link to your AAR in your signature. :)

EDIT: Checked it out, and I wouldn't worry if I were you. They probably waited for a regular update, but got none. But I think they will return eventually once they notice you started writing it again.

Here's another EU2 lover. It's the best game ever imo.

From time to time I install Vicky or CK and play some days, but I regularly return to my one and only EU2. But overall, my gaming time has decreased a lot.

I'm a SP guy, I like to play slow and use the pause button alot.

Hey, i also like to pause...

Even online. Specially when people start bitching about it. I cant remember how many times i heard the "dont pause when you are retreating your troops!" phrase.

You usually do that? How poor.

Indeed, how poor of the players to bitch. It is quite selfish for people to want to play at full speed when you are facing war with 4 nations or more, which means countless fronts to cover, PLUS very important oversea attacks.

Countless fronts to cover, and oversea attacks mean countless army/navy splits. Try to split a navy of 2000 ships into a few navies of 120 ships each in the middle of a war and THEN tell me how it went.

Not to speak about the many army-pursuits. You usually have to split the army as well, or you will reach the target province AFTER your enemy, which might give him the upper hand if he has crossed a river. And this kind of splits REQUIRE pause, or you will simply reach the province only after your enemy.

AND the goddamn rebels. One of the things you CANNOT neglect during a war. For a local power, hardly a nuisance - for someone with more then 100 provinces - a death sentence.

I still remember when i subbed HAL's decadent spain once - against a pretty decent england. Spain had godlike inflation and was far behind in the tech race - still i managed to keep +60 warscore for the entire war, against a stronger england with leaders such as marlborough.

How? With countless oversea sneaky attacks (and i paused so many times to split navies and all, that i still remember HOG complaining about the issue). When a player overstreches himself, its inevitable for the same player to develop weaknesses. Biggest problem was that i had to keep sending men into north america to fight against england and i often had to divide the fleet and keep an eye on the atlantic. Could have mustered men in America instead, but i could easily carry about 80k men from iberia instead, in a faster way.

Still wondering why i wasted my time subbing HAL though, but that is another story.

----------

And of course, i didnt even speak about merchants, colonists, and the other usual crappy stuff that takes place in a normal game. These things only add to the amount of stuff that you have to do in the middle of a war, although you can neglect them... for a while. Neglect them for too long and you will see some bastard with monopolies on your COTs, and your MI drastically lower then ever.
