Awesome work soldyne!

It seems you managed to get slope comforming to work for some props. Can you update the parking space props to be able to conform to slopes as well? As right now, even if you level out the terrain perfectly, there are always slight variations in the terrain that cause the parking space to float or clip.

Hey soldyne, your props are suberb. Do you think a set of fountains will be viable?

Some examples:

Thanks. =)

There is already a default fountain in the game that is very similar to those pics. and at the level of detail this game provides for props I don't think I could make anything that would be significantly different from the vanilla ones.

anyway, I have released my Chinese garden wall set in both prop and plop forms.
I would also like to thank everyone for their support as my workshop now has over 500 followers! Yippie!

my next project will be a Chinese themed metro station.

also, There is a new mod out there that lets you place props while you are playing the game just like trees. its great. only some minor bugs with the modder is working on, but, now all of my props are directly available in the game and not just in the asset editor. quite amazing!

with that mod, I am thinking of creating some natural props like more rocks, dead trees, logs, maybe even some ponds.

The problem of the fountains that are already in game is that they are all too small. We don't have big ones like the pre-order fountain.

About the mod, it was causing crashes in my game and I had to deactivate it. =(

Well, thanks for your great work anyways. Cya. =D

just a quick update. I added illumination to a few of my lamps. however, the illumination only seems to wok at the closest zoom level. when I zoom out, the illumination turns off. not sure how to fix that. I have a general query out to the forum in another thread though.

Hey soldyne. I just wanted to say that I think your work is great! I even noticed that you fixed the lods with the fruit stands you made so they don't show up pink anymore which makes me want to use them now. I've been going over almost every prop on the workshop looking for the very best stuff with perfect lods and adding them to a prop library collection for organization and for easy to find great props. I'v been asking a few people to update their stuff with better lods and hoping you will. I've seen with some of your newer assets that you have been making lods which is great and I've already included those assets in the collection. I think you have some of the best fences on the workshop and that's why I'm asking if you would please update them? I know that going back to old assets and updating is not the funnest of things but it would really be wonderful if you did. I don't think it would take you that long to do. Maybe I'm wrong though.

I've put together a screenshot of all the fences that need updating.

I personally ordered them in what I feel would be best to update first, second and third. Obviously this is just my suggestion, do what you want though. + I think it would be great if you added the stone wall iron gate as a prop. I'm only asking you of this because I like your work and want to use it but with the current state of the lods I feel like I can't cause it would bother me. Sorry for the criticism, just would like these assets to be top quality both main model and lod. Thanks, I hope you understand.

Thank you shroomblaze. I am still getting my new comp ready. its stable now so I still have to re-install blender, GIMP, and find all my old back-ups. apparently I lost a few files when I moved to the new hard-drive (or I just misplaced them). I use shortcuts a lot and of course the shortcuts on the old drive don't work right anymore so I am having issues locating all of my old projects.

would anyone happen to know where the .crp files from subscribed assets get stored? I had a back up of all of my shared content, but, half of those file are now missing. not sure what happened to them.

<edit>
found the missing files. apparently I had two back ups and one was older. I just got confused.

anyhow, new issue. I am using a newer version of blender (2.76) and I cannot get it to export a working .fbx file. I tried scale of 100, scale of 1. -Z forward and Y up as transforms and nothing. the LOD just dissapears when I zoom out. If I let the game make its own LOD it stays visible for much longer. not sure what to do.

yep, yep. I reverted to 2.74 which is what I was using before my new comp came on line. issue is now resolved. it must be a bug with 2.76.

now I just need more free time to actually put my nose to grind stone and get those LODs loaded.

<edit>
finished up with the props and plops for the following:
brick wall
chain link fence
old farm fence
iron fence
Stone Wall
Police Box
Wooden Wall

I also added two new props: Stone Column and Stone Wall Gate

its interesting to note that with a custom LOD the .crp file size on most assets went down. the ploppable fences went from ~5MB to ~1MB. maybe CO made improvements to the .crp file generation. I also reduced the tri count on the chain link props by about 60% or so. those were some of my earliest models so I made some optimizations.

let me know if you see any new issues.

Ok, here is the info how to make your wall props follow the terrain. It is explained in this thread: http://community.simtropolis.com/fo...res-and-other-interesting-prop-shader-tricks/

Get mod tools by bloodypenguin. Open your prop in the asset editor and open the modtools console (F7)

Run the script linked in the thread. The shader you are looking for is the "fence" shader. Don't forget to change that before you run the script.

Then just save and update your asset.

I was afraid Mod Tools might be involved. I don't like that tool, its not user friendly. all I wanted to do was make some nice models for the game, not be a code hacker. also, I am trying to get to a point where I can actually play the game. 115 hours of game time and still no cities built.

maybe, after I actually play the game a bit I'll revisit this. I wouldn't mind updating my assets if CO would make those shaders part of the editor, at least it would be easier to use anyway.

thanks for the information.

Well, it's quite simple. Press F7, paste the script, press Run and close the console..

I can also write you a script that works without any changes. Or a simple mod with a key shortcut.

I agree with boformer, I mean it's up to you. I'm already thankful that you updated your stuff and I still want to look at it soon. I understand why you don't think you would want to use mod tools and just want to make great stuff and that's how I felt about mod tools when I first heard about it. It's not really hacking or anything. Mod tools has a pretty easy to understand interface once you know your way around to do what you want to do. As far as the script thing goes boformer is talking about, I've done it. It's super easy and does not require going through a bunch of menus. You literally press a button, paste the script and save your asset.

Hey soldyne, I just want to thank you for updating all your fence props. I just checked them all out now and they are looking fantastic! I know you probably won't get a lot of recognition for updating all those and I'm sure it was a bunch of work but the people that care and use your assets will notice. I added them to my prop library collection that I'm gonna release soon. Looking forward to more assets from you in the future. Oh and please don't make any more fences, There are sooo many now that we just don't need more at the moment unless of course it is a really cool fence then go ahead lol.

Once I have started playing in my own city for a bit I will check it out. I was just frustrated to learn about it AFTER having updated all my props already. it was just bad timing and I didn't want to back over all of them again so soon.

anyway, I have created my own map and released it to the workshop. Will start on my first city shortly!

First off, thank you for everything you've done so far... I can't wait to see what's next! Speaking of that, I have a humble request. Could you please replicate all of the NFL, NBA, and MLB stadiums? I'm from Wisconsin, the home of the World Champion Milwaukee Bucks (Fiserve Forum and the Deer District) and the soon to be SuperBowl Champion Green Bay Packers (Lambeau Field and the Titletown District). We also have the amazing Milwaukee Brewers (Miller Park- which has a retractable roof!) and the Wisconsin Badgers (Camp Randall Stadium/Fieldhouse/Kohl Center). Betcha can't tell I'm a sports nut, eh? But not a greedy one! I want every fan out there to be able to drop their favorite team's venue down, not just the winning ones! ;) Anyway, keep up the great work! Go Pack! Go Bucks!
