Hi guys,

i am new to warlock, playing a xl map on impossible atm in armageddon mode against 8 ais (all allied, hehe)

Here are my questions (race: humans):

1) how can i upgrade a caravel? i have built everything, also a shipyard, so i should be able to upgrade it?

2) i can upgrade all other human units without any problems, but:
- orcs, i cant upgrade them (do they need their own upgrade building)?

3) cleanse the land is a bit too slow. Why all my units handle the dremer easily, i feel like 1/3 of the world is already corrupted by turn 60 now.
- Agreala, my reputation is too low (have a temple of Krypta + Fervus), how can i increase the relation to Agreal without a quest? I need that mass land healing spell =)

4) windwalk: is this spell the same as levitation? because my units that have it still can't attack flying units and cant fly over water? Is levitation another spell?

5) great game, entering my first portal world now...

Some answers, especially to point 1) would be great,

thx!

Ill try to answer what i can:
1. Dont know i dont use boats never built a single one, i just give my units water-walking
2. Orc advancement is not the same as human so you need to have at least one of the required building "academy" or something.
3a. Trade "clean the land" spell with AI that helps a lot
3b. In the diplomacy screen you see your standing with the gods. If you go for crypta you can't build agrela temples. There is a work-around that that you start building temples to other gods like krolm, then helia then dauros to slowly move your reputation closer to agrela but then you wont be able to build crypta any more. Also you need to build human cities near holy grounds cause i dont know if other races have access to all those gods.
4. Windwalk just increases unit movement (ignores terrain penaly or something)

On god reputation, as Vind noted, you're always moving in one direction or the other, so a good reputation with Krypta will mean a bad one with Agrela and vice versa...

One tip therefore is whenever you get a quest for opposing god of the one you want reputation for, the penalty in reputation with that god might actually be a benefit to you... so whenever I try getting favor of Krypta and I get a Agrela quest (even just a easy one to kill a unit), I just immediately refuse the quest to get the reputation change I want.

Im pretty sure you can only upgrade ships with perks gained from leveling up and (maybe) some casting perks. Cant upgrade using building based perks which are given to units. So you will need to get those ships out into combat to gain anything worthwhile. Better to use levitating or flying units for explortation on sea or transporting them using teleport spell.

Hey guys,

thx for your efforts, great answers!

@Vind:

This hint with trading spells with the ai of yours is excellent. "Sold" the cleansing spell for a meagre 30 gold to all of my "rivals", my neighbours cleanse my land now, within my territory, haha. Maybe they think they can conquer it someday, how cute they are.

@cryptc:

nice idea, this refusing of a quest. On the other hand: these quest seem so rare to me, that i rather take the 700 gold special unit i get as a reward. Although i recognized the reward differs: for Fervus, i got a special unit (druid) that cant be built in the temple of Fervus, but for Krypta, i got a lousy sister which can be built there.

But i will use your idea now and raze both temples to get the gods neat Agrela to my favour. The beast matsers of fervus seem crap to me anyway, and i already have 1 sister, dont need more. Atm i focus on only the pure best units, 1 of each type. For Fervus druids, i don't mind the second one..

@2coats:

thx, seems pretty imbalanced in thsi regard, human naval units are indeed crap times 10. only make sense in the beginning to scout when waterwalk is not available. Far to weak for the price. If i think of the flying galeus of the undead, human naval units really should be changeds dramatically.

Same with catapults, i mean, why are they in the game? You need

1) a special building for it
2) they move only 2 square and have a low attack. Maybe this gets risen against towns, but, looks just weak to me with a close regard to the costs. Damn, wasted 4 turns in building that...

Thx for all the asnwers,

good night & cheers

Catapults= range + invisbility = more attacks per turn... but yeah...
As for naval... probably the games weakest point. Was fun using them in huge ISLANDS map early on, but once you learn the game... they become more or less obsolete. BUt you must have levitate or walkwalk before you can really go to sea....

If you want to play a "naval" game, I suggest playing Undead and using Flying Galleus. They're fun, fairly powerful (if you are mindful of their low HP), and with a little nurturing can lay waste to cities in a heartbeat.

Not exactly the most optimum way to play, but I've heard they do fairly well in Armageddon, and even on impossible, you can do whatever you want and still win on vanilla.

While the wiki is terribly out of date, the building lists are still fairly accurate, and should be helpful to you. There are also spell combos and unit details (pre-Armageddon) in there.

Hey, great stuff, didn't know about the spell combos!

I wish there would be a way to increase the spell speed even more, if you have some hints in this regard (already have casted the "improved mind" something spell) this would be perfect :wub:

Thx a lot, incredible nice game, already bought all dlcs...

I think maybe the improved casting speed spells stack with themselves (although that's a bit gamey for my taste), but there is atleast 3 casting speed improvement spells I think (one is only available rarely from exploring other worlds though)

Hmm, although i want more speed, i hope this spell doesnt stack..Same with enchanments, i like that you cant apply the same one to a unit again to get e-g- +6 elemental regneration..

Otherwise you could create incredible imbalanced situations.

But thx for the hint, i definitely need to explore other worlds more, ahvent start yet properly doing it, focused too much on neutral cities and annihilating the dremer pest..
