Hey, I'm currently in the middle of my 3rd and by far most successful Italy game and so far I am very impressed with the current build. However, I have noticed recurring problems with the AI. Despite the fact that the Nationalists seem to consistently join the axis around Barbarossa time, the Germans ALWAYS, without fail, abandon the Iberian campaign without Gibraltar being taken or contained leaving the task to poor little Italy and it's mighty airforce of 3 TACs and 5 INTs. As such, I figure that a human allied player would be able to exploit the hell out of this by placing troops in Gibraltar then storming swiftly through Iberia and royally screwing German before the end of 1942.
Otherwise, the Soviet AI seems to vastly overestimate the Italian threat when Anatolia is invaded... In fact, the AI sent 75 divisions south to counter about 25 which when thankfully reinforced by Germans+Puppets were able to stop them in the mountains. Then, a swift landing in the Crimean Peninsula by 3 Italian marines+3 Mechs, + 1 armor, and 10 mountain divs was met with no resistance and had advanced to just outside Leningrad when the winter hit. Then, after an amazingly brutal campaign in the Caucuses during the winter of 41, the combined axis forces surged forth and cut off all the Soviet divisions so that they were down to 120ish by Jan 1943 with Moscow and Leningrad surrounded and Stalingrad under great pressure and presumably they are soon to be in full retreat unless the allies pull off something spectacular to save them.
Basically, I'm wondering if the Soviet AI could be modded to take more of a defensive strategy around the black sea and it seems absurd that they'd devote almost one million soldiers to fight an overextended Italy in terrain it could not conceivably advance in IF Ukraine/Crimea had been defended.
Finally, I've noticed the Toulouse seems to never transfer to Vichy which is fine with me as it makes Free France more of an obstacle, hell, they even built a new carrier which surprised the hell out of me after I sunk Bearn.
If you'd like I can post screenshots, but I only took them after the Soviets were encircled so I could remember Mussolini going Alexander on the east!
I'll probably play this one through for once, so I may have more feed back soon, I'm looking forward to seeing how the allies handle Normandy and am very worried by the US's growing stacks! But, hopefully I can invade India, "liberate" western China, then have all my forces available to help Germany should things go south and maybe even advance out of southern Egypt finally!
Alright, I decided to post an image of the situation in late 42 just to give you an idea of the amount of territory I was able to take in Ukraine w/o resistance... And because I'm proud of my little growing empire
Edit: Ok... things took a turn for the worse in late 43 when Germany inexplicably moved a vast amount of divisions east which I then cringed in horror as they were destroyed leaving both Germany and the Soviets with less than 140 divs, then the allies landed(Normandy)... The good news is I couped Mongolia with a bit of luck and captured most of India, but not enough to release it... So, seeing as Germany is now screwed... I think I'm gonna take a break from WiF after way too much playing lately. But, it's not completely over yet, so I may go back to it later, although I think me taking the Crimea may have screwed with the German AI preventing them from encircling Stalingrad and then I didn't really send any divs to help except eight experienced mobile divisions, I'm not really sure if it was the German AI's failing or the Soviet AI's success. Anyway, thanks for the great mod, it's been a lot of fun but I think I'd enjoy the slower more deliberate empire building of EU3MMP for now...
