1) pausing. having thus far only played sp, I am very used to the pause button when an unexpected major fleet battle starts for example. I tend to play usa the most. Do you guys have any tips/suggestions for managing such a large country with out pausing?
2)Historicity. Do most mp games require historical playing? Will people be upset if I don't?
3) nap's Usa has alot of pacts. How do most people feel about a 5yr exp date for those pacts?
4)I have more questions, but have to go back to work. :(

1) ask to play on very slow if u have a lot going on. Dont be afraid to pause when u really need to. No point in losing your whole army just because u were scared that other players would complain. Over time u will learn how to "not" pause or pause for a second or 2 only.
2) Generally all groups have a ruleset decided upon before they start. One of the more common rules is no war till danzig event (with minor exceptions). People will be upset if you do things that are against the agreed rules. If you have a question ask the host before u do something "bad"
3) depends on group

Well, what fiendix said. Pauses are sometimes necessary (major dows e.g.), but usually frowned upon. I really hate it when people pause for no apparent reason, say the US pauses for 20 seconds when there really shouldnT be anything to worry about. This freak me out sometimes.
Also, when we play on slow, there usually should be enough time for you to do actions you want to perform. You will also eventually notice HOW slow slow really is at times ;) :D

No war til danzig? how does that apply to italy with regard to spanish conquest? As ita I almost always puppet spn prior to scw. What about steering usa facist/communist and dow mex/cent america
5) mc of puppets? I almost never mc allies, but generally do my puppets.
6) I probably don't know the questions I really need to ask. Is there any way to "watch" an mp game, aside from reading the aar's?
7)in game communication? how? for example two players making trades, or under the table alliances?

yes, well SoL, the "tricks" you talk about are usually frowned upon. There usually is the historical alliance situation, no USA with GER, or JAP with SU or something like that. Also, no phony wars and such.

No war til danzig is used for a save build up. on monday game we dont have such rules, then again we start with the 38 scenario usually anyway.
Of course event wars can be fought (china/jap)

in game communication as in using the "tab"-key to type something. like in shooters, for example.

By phony wars, you mean dowing tibet or paraguay or somesuch, with no intention of prosecuting the war? I also consider that gamey. I do like to play ahistorical sometimes just for the change, however most of my games are the straight alliances. I guess in mp the straight games would be more interesting. Still what about mc of puppets?

With regards to the pause button, how do you guys handle the arrival/completion of 18 divs and 18 associated brigades while in the middle of a crucial fleet battle where your sag is engaged with a ctf at night and you want to break off at daylight. You don't want to hold the troops undeployed due to tc effects, but you don,t want your sag destroyed due to a chance encounter with the ijn. This is just 1 of I am sure is hundreds of examples where I hit pause to sort things out. Also I hate the auto slider it never does what I want, so I adjust my slider almost daily.

phony war...would be like jap joining axis and not fighting russia......thats the biggest one i can think of.....very annoying....as japan would get much needed blueprints and such w/o the penalty of defending russia borders....thus able to concentrate solely on usa and allies

Ok that makes sense, if you join an alliance be an ally.I think I will try to wean myself from pausing so much before I try mp. Thanks for your input guys.

Pausing is usually bad but there are some cases where you HAVE to pause, like Gen.S said, major DoWs usually require a pause as you order troops and planes on the entire front to attack/defend. Other cases that require pausing is usually tech changes, not pausing before a tech change sometimes causes a very annoying bug to happen where the tech is lost and you can't re-research it (unless a rehost is done). But usually the game is played on slow during the war, and sometimes very slow when there is alot of action so you usually get most of the time you need.

But they get to fight the british in india and the americans over the seas and in philipenes so they contribute to the war.

but wasn't that what happened during WWII?

Historically, even when Japan declared war on the Allies, it did not fight with SU.

historically, SU wasn't a part of the allies...
