I have a couple of questions concerning multiplayer game.
I read some treads to become an idea whats going on.
Clear things for me are houserules,playing with people on same continent,hosting player should be that one with best connection, arrangements for gameplaying are made specially in ICQ.
Some thing not so clear would be....

1) isn´t playing without pause a bit stressful, specially during wars or other special events...or even in a phase of restruction?
On the other hand with pause-key the game is stopping for everyone rite?
2) Can you have your ICQ open during gameplay to use for chat?
3) Is a 56k modem speedy enough for muliplayer?
4) In case of a crash is the hole game blown away or only one single player? Any chance to reenter for that player then or is that country run by the AI for that session?
5) When you are on holiday or something.....do you use replacements for that time or just going along with the AI.
6) How is the exact procedere to enter a multiplayer session...any special things to obej?
7) Who is making the savegames? Everybody or only the host?
8) Anything special to load savegames for multiplayer?
9) What´s vnet? Is that a gameplatform like Arcade?
10) Are there any Victory conditions in muliplayer or is it just to have fun?
11) Is there any schedule concerning Victory conditions as some countries are more powerful? I´m thinking about a solution like in Empire in Arms (the boardgame) where each country has to reach a different Victory Level.
12) Are different versions compatible or you need the same version? (german,english,italien,.............)
13) Some people write AAR´s about muliplayer-sessions. Any problem if it´s not my mother-language......maybe i write some nonsens :D ?
14) Is the latest patch (1.05) the correct one for multiplayer.
15) Do you miss any question normally come from dull newbies :confused: :D

1) Yes, it can be. Which makes it cool :D
2) Preferably turn it off, do'nt go out of the game while playing.
3) It can be, though it's far from optimal.
4) IF teh host crash everyone does. IF someone else crashes, it's just him. The game goes on then without him, he can't rejoin, till the moment the game is stopped and everyone rejoins in teh lobby.
5) Replacements are best. Depends on what game ur in and how it is organised.
6) Practive makes perfect :D
7) Host only.

9) A channel where u can meet people to play.
10) Whatever u decide on.
11) Nope.
12) U need to have the same patch and unedited files (or same edited ones) but american, euro and so on versions work nicely together.

1) No, people tend not to abuse pause at all.

4) Sometimes it is only for one single player. the AI tends not to kick in so you have to reload the session then or after a pre agreed period.

11) Its being worked on but it very difficult to work out. It is not in the nature of the game that all countries are created equal.

13) No one cares, everyone is just pleased that you contributed

ad 7)

If you are writing an AAR, making player saves makes sense. It won't be of any use to host a game session since it lacks the event-history (allowing events to fire twice...), but it will include your history in the history-log, including the communications you made, which can be useful when writing AARs. The host-save will only include the hosts history in the history-log, so save every few years, if you want to maintain your log :)

1)
a) I get very mad when I play with people who try to say "no pausing". If I'm playing a country that I'm not real familar with and get a big event or big stab hits I will pause it. I just let everyone know at begining of game that I do pause the game when I feel it required.

b) Also I meet some people that want to play without pausing and at 1 min = 4. Thats way to fast for MP.

2) Many people will say that ICQ will crash the game. I think that may still be open for debate. I think I have not ever caused a ICQ crash. I like to talk strategy on ICQ as oposed to in-game.

3)
a) 56k is ok if you all are not too far away from each other. For example Austria and USA....bad. Austria and Poland.... ok.:)

b) Some times if you notice that the date pauses for a second and then goes through the next days real quick I ask people what date it is. When I get lag I find out some players are 6 months behind me.

4) If a player is kicked out if you all agree to it you can continue for awhile before getting that player. BUT the AI does not take over for that player. Making the country helpless.

5) I perfer a replacement for me. People are usually good about that. BUT one time I came back after the ai took over for me for a session I found my England being besiged by 2 human players.:mad:

6) Just get the host ip or join the game that pops up in Vnet. If your joinning a game in Vnet make sure they dont mind if you join. Dont just pop in unvited and not being polite if you can stay in.

7) Hmmmm, Host has the save game. When you all continue the game the save game uploads on to your computer. I dont know how it all works.:)

8) When the host crashes and I don't feel like loading from the autosave (like right after accepting peace) I save the game myself and send it to the host. BUT the host will have to save and restart from my file and then save it again or the game will crash from starting from a non-host save file. (Don't ask me why happens every time)

9) Well I like it 'cause I get to meet people who are interested in a game right away. BUT since you are just all stumbling into each other (non planned) the game usually only last one session. I usualy ask before joining if this is a one time session or not. I like to know what I'm getting into.

10) I've always get real specific BEFORE the game starts. If I'm a western power I tell Spain right off that if I see them out of TOT I will attack them. I also tell Sweden and Russia if they go into USA/Canada area I will attack them. I always try to get pre-rules before the game 'cause many players (many who are young) will piss you off.

11) Plug- EIA is the best board game of all times. I own 2 copies.:) Anyway I make victory results for the nappy senario otherwise I just assume that I will never get to the end of the game. IMHO MP winner is usually based on dioplomacy. Who can do the most without upseting everyone.

13) I've seen so many awesome AAR's that I've always been afraid to do one. As my spelling and gramer is bad and I do not have a great story telling ability.

For a fun game play with Damocles and JohnMK. They are a blast, but one of them really needs a sense of humor.:D (Uh Oh I hope he doesnt read that last sentense)

As soon as i end my current WC with Castille hopfully around 1675
i will join the multliplayer community. But still 30 years BB-War is long enough.....Just made a short testgame with a friend yesterday....everything is working.....the only thing is i should never be host....the others would have a lag of 6-9 months :eek:
