If anyone happens to know the answer to any of these questions, I'd be interested to know. Obviously I can (and will, if necessary) try to check for myself, but it's better to build on existing knowledge where I can:
1. In prescripted species systems can you place the position of the homeworld star on the galaxy map, so that it will always appear in the same position?
2. Can you combine a pre-designed star map with prescripted species systems. The point here is that for the Sol system, the prescripted species systems does not work that well for nearby systems like Alpha Centauri and Procyon, because you can end up with the latter being closer to Sol than the former. So could you create a predesigned map in which the stars local to Sol are fixed, then the prescripted Sol is placed in the correct position relative to these stars (obviously the answer to my first question is relevant here).
3. Can you create a partially predesigned map with the rest being filled in at random by the game? For example, you design a map with 400 stars, then have the game use that information to create a playabe map with 1000 stars (i.e. 400 pre-designed stars and 600 randomly created stars)?
4. Can you force other empires to use specific prescripted stars?
It might help if I give some idea as to the background of these questions, in case anyone has any ideas of a better way to implement what I am trying to do.
What I want to do is to create a partially fixed galaxy in which at least several dozen stars are fixed in name and position and some are designated as homeworlds to specific races. However, I don't want to fix all the star positions and names, so I want the game to randomly create several hundred more stars around the pre-designed ones.
Thanks,
Lucre
