The players are dukes in Ireland. They compete with each other to become (or remain) the King.

Irish Dukes (and who has claimed them)

*Leinster (Patrucio)
*Meath (Hyzenhok)
*Munster (Byakhim)
*Ulster (Jarkko)
*Western Isles (OPEN)

Rules of the Game

Players may only have semi-sallic inheritance laws, though they may choose primogeniture, consanguity, or gavel-kind. This means you will have to be careful whom you marry your daughters to and will create an incentive to take a risk with inbreeding. This also opens up an "inheritance" strategy against other players should you wish to take that route. I will also mod all NPC domains in the play area to start out as semi-sallic primogeniture inheritance laws, though the AI may change it's inheritance as it pleases.

The "play area" of the game is Ireland, England, Wales, and Scotland (as well as nearby islands like Orkneys and Shetland.) You cannot leave the area until an Irish King is crowned. You can meddle in Scotland, Wales, and England. You can even become King of one of those lands if you somehow manage it. But, as this is an Irish Game, until the Clans are united we cannot stray from the game area. This means you can't go crusading. This means you can't mess in continental politics or seek/accept continental allies. This even means you can't look for a bride outside the isles or accept offers for your daughter to marry outside the region. (Exception- if you become King of England, you may defend any vassals you have on the continent should they involve themselves in a war. You cannot, however, seek to expand your continental holdings until Ireland is united.)

You cannot claim the Throne of Ireland until you control all provinces required for the title of King of Ireland. That means you will need to acquire all the other players of their Ducal titles as a necessary part of becoming King, unless you manage to become King of another Isle Kingdom first.

Once an Irish King is crowned, you can meddle, crusade, and marry out of the Isles with your liege's permission. For example, if you are a vassal of Ulster, you need the Duke of Ulster's blessings. If you become a Welsh vassal for some reason, you need the permission of the King of Wales to do the same. If your Liege doesn't grant you permission, you are free to try and rebel against him or try to switch loyalties.

Each player will get to create two characters at the beginning of the game. You will get to create your Duke (40 points) and a second character that must either be a blood relative (of either gender) or your Duke's spouse (30 points.) Characters will be created according to the "Jarkko Rules" of CK MP mod characters.

If a player is eliminated, they may rejoin the game as a vassal of another PC. They may, of course, take several offers and select the most attractive one.

The King of Ireland isn't required to have elective inheritance. If you manage to gain the throne, you can hold onto it as long as you can manage to. You do, however, have to abide by the semi-sallic inheritance rule.

Should have mentioned that the games *probably* are played early mornings European time (I am on vacation so I can get up early and play well in the morning, Patrucio lives in USA and can't usually play until late night). But as I said, times are irregular :)

Your ICQ may be on, but I seem to fail any answer from you :) Ben, have you recieced any of the messages I sent over ICQ during this weekend ?

Oh, I'm planning on having us play modded characters, as per Jarkko's rules (they're in another post somewhere.) I'd like to try the modding myself, just to get the hang of it, but since Jarkko's done this for us, he'll make sure I didn;'t mess things up.

More details will be forthcoming at a later time.

Conleth is the oldest son of the old Duke of Ulster. His mother died when he was born. Conleth was eight years when his father got severly ill. Praying for days his father wanted to see that his son to recieved intensive training for the coming important duties.

Conleth understood very soon what was expected from him, and he has shown strong keennes, even though his abilities are perhaps not any extraordinary. The old Duke told Conleth many times the most important thing in life is to get up in the morning and grasp the tasks that the day brings along. Conleth takes an interest of people, a fact that has made him rather popular amongst the youg maids.

When Conleth came to age his father finally did succumb to the long lasting illness. Conleth is not alone however, he has at the court his uncle Aed and Aed's two sons; Dunsleive and the still infant Donnchad.

Well, I might want to join up too, as I have to admit that the idea of modding characters is too intriguing to resist.

If I get to choose what to play, I'll of course want to play Meath, but I am fine with Munster or Leinster (the harp thing) too. I'd prefer not to be stuck with Connacht, but I guess I'll survive there too.

Aelfirth Duke of (i think it's Ulster, whatever starts in Connacht) will be my character, gotta go right now for a game.

Jarkko, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you have spent one trait-point too many on your character. And they're your rules!

Valorous, Bastard, Brilliant Strategist

Feradach O’Brien was the bastard son of Conchbar O’Brien, the Duke of Meath. His mother died when he was three, and Conchbar was obliged to take him in. However, he was sent to the army as soon as he was old enough, as Conchbar’s three legitimate sons disliked the younger bastard, and he was a reminder of Conchbar’s sin. Feradach disappeared from the court for some time. While he trained with the 100-man army, he showed true aptitude at his appointed task. His teachers taught him many things and were quite skilled themselves. Feradach turned out to be an intellectual, always wisely thinking through his options before acting. In his intellectuality, however, he was somewhat questioning of the faith, and loved to discuss such questions with his closest friends and teachers. Despite his detached attitude towards the church, Feradach turned out to be somewhat of an example for them. He was forgiving, generous, and could always be trusted. He was well liked throughout Meath’s army.

Conchbar O’Brian died in 1066, when Feradach was twenty years old. The Duchy’s elective law saw a usual scramble for power. Though it was originally expected Conchbar’s eldest son, who was a count under his father, would take the throne, Feradach managed to use his likeable traits, his popularity within the army and his martial skills to wrench control of the Duchy away from his older half-brothers.

LOL! I was toying between Energetic and Lustful. Proud was there from the start. When I typed it to the message reading my shabby notes on paper it got mixed up. Thank's for pointing it out :)

Wise, Sceptical, Forgiving, Generous, Trusting, Bastard, Brilliant Strategist
That is a bit more than the allowed 1+2 traits :D One educational trait (Brilliant Strategist) + two other traits (unless you take maniac, inbred or some such :) )

Right, nowhere I see Munster taken by anyone. So I'd like to have it.

Also I suggest that while we mod characters for ourselves, we could mod from one to three relatives for us too. Sisters, brothers, fathers, something like that. It's more work, but having some adult relatives before your own kids get of age makes game seriously more interesting.

One to three relatives means that if you like to have one, it would be made with 40 points, like our dukes. If two, then both with 30 points and if three, with 20 points. If Jarkko thinks this is too much work, but otherwise people agree that it's good idea, I can do the editing part for them.

Also I suggest that the Inheritance Law is changed with edit to be Elective at start, as we need to have Elective when we are king.

Here's my second, brother of my Duke. (Though I think having a custom duke is enough)

Stewardship 4

Health 6
Fertility 0

Illusive Shadow, Indulgent, Coward

Lorcàn O'Brien was the youngest son of Conchbar O'Brien. As the youngest, he was spoiled beyond belief. He never went outside or cared for anything but what he wanted. As such, he would always pay any price for something he wanted. He was horridly afraid of combat and cared little for war. His true passion was intrigue; he was divinely genius at it. He excersised his sneaking, plotting skills frequently (often to indulge himself or get out of a fight) throughout his childhood.

You'll notice his fertility rating is 0. He had some very strange habits, and threw a tantrum when his father fired the stableboy. ;)

There were great expectations for Cuchulain, nephew of the Duke of Leinster, when he was born. Court astrologers spoke of a tremendous future portended by the stars. Wise women foresaw greatness in the boy's future. His father named him after the great hero of the Irish people in deference to these glorious promises.

Cuchulain never felt comfortable with the expectations placed upon him, but he learned to use them well. He learned to tell people what they wanted to hear, and he also learned how to make people think his ideas were their own. Expectations gradually turned into disappointment as the boy grew into a deformed and ugly man. People turned away from the lad, and forgot about the greatness promised to him by the fates. Cuchulain did not, however. As his form grew uglier, his words became all the sweeter. He became a respected poet and player of the harp and lyre, and managed to find a place in his uncle's court as a musician. Cuchulain accepted this, but did not settle for it. he merely bided his time, and began to win over the courtiers of Leinster with insightful comments and flattery.

Cuchulain was wed to a beautiful Welsh noble by the name of Bronwyn on his 21st year. Bronwyn was hailed as much for her talents with coin as she was admired (and desired) for her lustful and earthy ways. Many thought that Bronwyn would soon tire of her deformed husband, but she never did. Bronwyn recognized the greatness beating in Cuchulain's chest, greatness that had been forgotten by those familiar with him, and knew that her own selfish desires would be best served by tying herself to him.

With Bronwyn at his side, Cuchulain's stock in the court rose. As his stock rose, Cuchulain's cousins began to have tragic accidents. One after another fell to some tragic mishap or freakish incidence, and while some suspected foul play most simply saw bad luck. In a matter of two years, Cuchulain found himself as the heir to Leinster. Cuchulain's uncle, weary from the death that plagued his family and fearful of a his nephew he suspected was the shadowed hand that brought said death, abdicated his throne and retired to a monistary to live out the rest of his days in peace. This abdication placed Cuchulain upon the Ducal Throne of Leinster, and placed in his hands the fate of his people. Once seated, Leinster's treacherous eyes turned towards her neighbors.

Bronwyn is the only daughter of an obscure and impoverished Welsh noble. She was basically sold into marriage to Cuchulain of Dublin in order to repay a debt owed to the ruling family of Leinster. Bronwyn is, above all else, concerend with increasing her husband's power (and, consequently, her own.) Though Cuchulain is an ugly man, she truly loves him for his kindness to her (something she never knew before him) as well as his cunning and willingness to treat her as an equal and partner.

In the words of C. Montgomery Burns, "Excellent." :D

Recent events of the duchy of Munster:
There was much internal strife in the duchy of Munster after duke Toirrdelbach O'Brien was murdered on 12th april of the year 1066. The right of succession of Toirrdelbach's sons was disputed by several powerful nobles in Munster. During the hot summer the strifed exploded into violence which caused the death of Torrdelbach's sons in the hands of Eochaid Ui Aedhagan. Eochaid, a capable warrior, served his older brother Ailill Ui Aedhagan as a warleader then and after the battle, Ailill won the remaining nobles under his banner. After few months of reassuring the counts of Urmumu and Tuadmumu, Ailill is now the undispused duke of Munster.

Ailill Ui Aedhagan

Ailill is the young patriarch of Munsterian noble family of Ui Aedhagan. His father was slain in battle when he was only eight years old, leaving him, his brother and his mother to be raised in the court of duke of Munster. Ailill continued his tutelage under the courtiers of Munster, according to the wishes of his father. He grew bitter and resentful of old duke Torrdelbach, who his father had so faithfully served. Ailill blamed the old duke of his father's death in the internal struggles of the family O'Brien. Torrdelbach was unaware of Ailill's hatred though, as Ailill had become very competent in lies and deception. When he reached adulthood, his tutors hailed him as a Intricate Webweaver. He gained the trust of Torrdelbach with his Energetic manner and untiring work and was appointed as the duke's Spymaster. As a Spymaster, Ailill managed to convince Torrdelbach that his sons were conspiring against him and made sure that Torrdelbach's sons weren't liked by any of the Munsterian nobles. Then shortly after his twentyfirst birthday, Ailill struck, arranging his brother to assasinate Torrdelbach in the middle of night. The rest is history, as they say.

Eochaid Ui Aedhagan

Four years younger than Ailill, Eochaid was sent to learn the arts of war by duke Torrdelbach, to eventually take the place of his father as a marshal of Munster. During his training, Eochaid displayed a great skill at arms and also good understanding of war tactics. He showed Valorous courage on many occasions while undergoing his tutelage, though at times he was even Reckless in his actions. By the time he had finished his war schooling, he was a very Knowledged Tactician as well as a mighty armsman. Eochaid didn't share his father's loyalty for duke Torrdelbach, who was very unskilled in the arts of war and it was easy for his brother Ailill to get Eochaid join to his plots of overthrowing the duke.

And file "1066_scenario_countries.inc" would need a change in MUNS tag, as ruler's id needs to be changed to 50001.

And file "1066_scenario_titles.inc" would also need a change on MUNS and C014 tag, changing holder's id to 50001.

And the scenario file itself, "1066_scenario.eug" could be changed to reflect the changed DNA of the new duke, on MUNS, by taking the DNA of Ailill's and replacing the current in file with Ailill's.

I have tried the edits and they work on me.
