My pc recently developed an issue with its sound card. It seems that it no longer recognises that it has one.

I don't care all that much, as I usually play games on mute anyway, but when I load up CK, I get a critical error which reads

"CK has encountered a problem with your sound card. Please obtain and install the latest sound drivers from the sound card manufacturer. If the problem persists, contact the technical support."

Now, I can OK the error, and the game loads and plays as normal, except that my graphics are messed up because I had to minimise the game in order to remove the error message.

So... how can I either stop this message from happening or remove the problem of having my graphics ruined by using Alt-Tab? Is there an option to run the game without needing a sound card?

Hmm. I'm working on that, but I fear it's a problem with the hardware, rather than the driver. Is there any way of running CK in windowed mode?

EDIT - I found a way to used windowed mode - http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=152537.

That's a short-term fix for now. Just need to struggle with the actual sound card now! I need CK for all those moments when I need a break from fixing my laptop!
