Technical Problem

I have a technical problem that I need your help with please.

Game Version & Patch (incl. publisher): CKDV 2.1beta, CD Version 'Complete Pack', published by Paradox Interactive.

OS & build/SP: Windows XP Home, SP3

Computer, CPU & speed: AMD Athlon 64 3200+

RAM: 1.5GB

Free HDD space: 25GB

Video (brand, model, driver, memory): NVIDIA GeForce 6200TC 128MB

Sound (brand, model, driver): Creative SBLive! (an old card from 1999-ish)

DirectX Version: 9.0c

Other: My Settings file in the CK install dir contains:
1024
768
MUSIC_ON

I read the stickies but I still have the following problem:

As per title, I have the SFX but no music. The music is installed on my HDD (and the mp3's are OK as I've tried them in Winamp). Music is fine in other Paradox games I have (EU2, Ricky, HoI Anthology).
Any help appreciated.

**update**
Just some more info.
I've googled the forums and it seems a few people have 'no music' issues with other Paradox games, so I've tried some of the suggestions I found.
Installing codec packs didn't help.
With music on, EU2 would CTD. I found a fix for that by deleting (or renaming) the following file.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\l3codecx.ax

Restoring the original did not solve my CK problem.
I can easily rule out viruses (virii?) etc.
Although my sound card is old, I have no problems in any other app or game, so I discount driver and old hardware as the cause.

I guess it's not the end of the world. I can still run Winamp and listen to the music.

l3codecx.ax is one of the component files of the FraunHoser mp3 codec. You could attempt to reinstall it by installing the latest version of DirectX.
