Sound issue

Whenever I try to use a headset playing Armageddon the sound volume will not remain at the desired level. Instead, after a few moments of me resetting the volume to a comfortable level it, will go back to full blast.

Is there a workaround for this?

If no one else is having this issue does it mean it's a sound card problem? or does that FFDShow thing require updating ?
