Sound problems

Okay, I just installed Win ME (on a new formated HD), and then installed my Sound drivers and so on, and offcause installed my just-bought-Europa Universalis.. Anyway, i start up the game, and after the intro, the 'Loading' sequence starts, the sound Does not go smooth.. It makes a half second music sound, and then it's silent for about 1 sec.. The loading sequence takes about 30-40 min!!! and the sounds continue buggin in the game menu (whitch makes it almost impossible to do something cause it takes about 5 min to open a menu). What the ----
can be the problem?

I have a AMD-K6: 233mhz
Creative AWE 64 sound card

And, just installed Win ME on a formated HD (It didn't work be4 i formated neither..)

Plz help me out (I live in sweden as well =)

We are aware of the sound problem and have identified it.

There seems to be a lot of problems, most common with Win ME, that the soundcard drivers are NOT completely compatible with DirectX 7.

We are looking into the possibility to see if there is anything we can do with our code to help.
