I just installed a Soundblaster Audigy Gamer card and then downloaded the 1.03 patch and noticed that every sound plays once, then never plays again. This also seems true of music, which plays the intro track and then goes silent. Tested this card with other games and found no problems. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling (both the card and the game) but to no effect. Any ideas?

CPU: AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.4 GB
MEM: 256 MB
VID: GEForce 2 Ultra 64 MB
SOUND: Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer
OP.SYS: Win 98 SE

Well, I got the sounds to repeat by decreasing accleration to basic or none, but my speakers give an annoying and persisitant hiss while the game plays if I do this. I've got Cambridge Soundworks speaker system... 2.1, I think, if 2.1 means 2 speakers and a subwoofer. Uninstalling/reinstalling and the avi thing didn't affect this. Is there some way to eliminate the hiss?

Well... the hissing problem didn't occur until I turned the acceleration down, so I don't feel comfortable getting George's patch. However, it looks like there's a patch for my sound card at Sound Blaster, but I can't tell for sure because they don't date stamp the driver on the install CD. I tried downloading the "new" driver but it crashed my system and forced me to do a reinstall. I think my problem will be cleared up by upgrading to windows XP, which seemed to solve the issue for other people, and I had planned to do this soon anyway. Nevertheless, thank you for your help.

That is too bad but WinXp sounds like a good choice if moving all the way from 98.
