Pah, we have got us some new ships with which to visit our dear friends in Britain. Of course the Danegeld is somewhat higher to compensate, not too much mind, just enough to cover our expenditures.

That's the KNM «Fridtjof Nansen» & KNM «Helge Ingstad»

Budget AEGIS ships? No you're right, I'm sure they will be useful in calibrating torpedo launchers! :p

Doesn't the Nansen use the smaller and less capable SPY-1F radar from the F100 as opposed to the standard SPY-1D for other AEGIS ships by the way? The Norwegian Navy has set itself a goal to become Europe’s best navy by 2010; whatever that even means for a navy that supposedly can only deploy 3 Nansens (at a push). Blohm & Voss’ (Navantia's rival and ultimate runner up in bidding to build the ship) proposal allegedly believed that there was only room for three. I think the Norwegian Navy’s reach has exceeded its grasp, building more vessels than they can operate.

Sure, the SPY-1F is less powerful (as in watts) than its larger D siblings, but it has all the same eletronics for tracking and general number crunching. Its integration with ESSM and SM-2 are the same. From what we were told by its operators, it performed extremely well in exercises, even compared to the Burke's D variant. From what I know, it is only the ballistic defense capabilities that are left out.

The other problem is very real. Norway does not have budgets and manpower to keep them all operating.

My major issue with Blohm & Voss' frigate proposal was its very weak AA defense. I think the Nansen was a good choice. Too bad we can't afford to operate them all.
