Does the skill "special solid shot" with the 20% damage decrease accuracy and range? It seems when I've been starting to use it recently it does. I combined it with accuracy and long shot but it missed just about every time at the same distance that using chainshot+accuracy+longshot would hit. This is the distance where the ship is about half the distance from your longest firing range with a regular cannonball. This is with a galleon that has full combat stars and all the morale boosters enabled.

If I use chainshot or sometimes even regular cannonballs +accuracy+long shot+"special solid shot", it seems to miss a lot with the solid shot skill enabled versus not enabled at all. Is special solid shot made mainly to be used with grapeshot at close range?

I am using both "special solid shot" and "accuracy" alternatively for my flag ship with good results. I use them alternatively so, that one is active when the other is reloading. Then the shots from my flagship takes a good toll of the enemy flagship, which normally is the selected target for all my ships. If you bring down the enemy flagship first, then the others are easier to handle.

Afterthought: This thread should perhaps be moved to the general section, since it handles of game strategies, not of technical questions how to run the game, game crashes, Windows errors et cetera.

I've been trying what you've suggested and I have had much greater success than before. Last time I had one galleon up against a pirate Xebec and it was missing a lot. This time I added 4 cutters to back me up and fought down a pirate galleon. This is not my best current fleet. But I pummeled the heck out of that ship with accuracy+longshot followed by solidshot and repeat the process. Thanks for the tip.
