Some don't like them but they don't have to buy it...since it doesn't affect gameplay. It's art and worth what ever buyers are willing to pay.
I prefer more Humanoids to match the numbers of other phenotype; even better, a new phenotype, along with their new ships, of course; such that we would ultimately have all these:
1. Humanoid
2. Mammalian (and Marsupial)
3. Avian
4. Reptilian (and Amphibian)
5. Molluscoid
6. Arthropoid (Insect and Crustacean)
7. Fungoid
8. Plantoid
9. Ichthyoid
10. Lithoid
11. Anneloid
-----
12. Plasmaoid (or Energoid?)
13. Synthetic (or Android?)
Though...how these last two might relate into Stellaris starting and ending ascendancies is uncertain.

Sadly I think wiz has said there wont be any cosmetics other than what is coming up next dev diary. Wich is the whole ships fit empire colours or something? Thats pretty cool atleast.
I honestly wish they'd release them in theme packs like that pre-purchase DLC... WHICH I STILL WANT TO BE ABLE TO BUY!
I don't want to buy a ton of plantoids, but i do want to buy a ton of nightmare creatures... I'd even want to buy a pack of more earth looking species and then a pack of supper non-euclidean entities, and maybe a pack of adorable cute critters, and a pack of carnivores, a too many legs pack...
you get the idea.
I don't feel the need for additional portraits but would like to see more ship styles.
If that's the case, then Utopia will be the first payed DLC with no additional portraits.
We could still have new forum avatars even from pre existing species though.
It will also be the first expansion for Stellaris so it differing would not surprise me.
I agree, I especially want forum avatars for the Creatures of The Void.
It's a shame as I would love to buy some more ship packs. The plant ones are the best looking ships in the game. They at least feel like their species, where the others could be switched up and you wouldn't really notice.
There is also the possibility that this expansion will be followed by a content/cosmetic pack in the near future. Like, cybernetic clothes, different types of synths, halo and/or shiny eyes for psyckers etc...

Propably not. But it could be that the art team suddenly has some free time.
That would be a nice way to complete the patch 1.6 since this patch will probably fix any issue with 1.5/Utopia and add any content they had to cut due to time constraints.
Judging by the recent M&M expansion for CK2, PDS might start shifting their policy towards integrating the Content Packs into the main expansions. So whatever a content pack might have been might be just included into Utopia.
Nope, only ship coloring. You can paint all your ships in red to improve combat speed.
I definitely want a robot portrait, the only options I've got are meatbags
