Please note that there has been no official comment on EU4, this is just me thinking.

From the EU5 forum

When the game is out, we will actually see what the game is and is not (the players decide, not us), adjust development plans and etc. I think after a few months we might be able to look and say "Ok, now we have the bandwidth to support one more OS/storefront" and make plans, and we probably will share that close to its respective release.

If they currently use zero resources for anything than what they consider core EU5 development, that likely also applies to EU4 patches. The time when they think they "have the bandwidth" could be a time when they also think whether they should put some resources towards patching EU4.

I'm guessing that EU5 need for patches will dictate when they have the bandwidth, more bugs means it'll take more time. And I'm guessing that once they reach their bandwidth point, they'll use EU4 player numbers to decide whether to do patches for it. A buggy EU5 may mean more EU4 players, but more time until they're done fixing EU5. A bug free EU5 means they'll have free time sooner, but there are less EU4 players left. I guess there will be some left in any case, those whose OS or HW is not enough for EU5, those who can't afford EU5, and those who for some other reason prefer EU4 over EU5. I guess one possible reason to prefer EU4 over EU5 would be that the latter may be more complex. Whether those make up large enough player numbers are enough for them to do patches, remains to be seen.

So, EU4 update possible (but very far from certain!) several months after EU5 launch. I'm not happy about that, but seems to be the best clue out there.

There won't be any more EU4 patches. It's a 12 year old game that's been retired. Tinto was set up to wrap up EU 4 and get EU 5 up and running and that's what it's been doing.

Imperator has had some patches. Assuming EU4 still has something like Imperator level of player numbers after EU5 release, I'd assume it gets at least Imperator level of support.

The most EU4 will get at this point is minor bugfixing, even if that. And I don't see it happening before late 2026 or early 2027, even if the EU5 release goes exceptionally well, by which time even less people will care about it than now. Some of the most glaring issues are Mac related, and seeing how Mac/Linux users won't even get EU5 on release, you can imagine what the chances are of them getting a bugfix for a 12 year old game.

Minor fixes and nothing more. EU 4 might get some compatibility stuff but nobody at Paradox will be working on it on a daily basis.

Nobody is asking for further development on EU4 or any new features, just a fix for known issues.

Imperators Patch was a couple of bugfixes. It was primarily for stuff for modders (Invictus Team) to be able to mod and change things that were hardcoded before
