As an opposite example where none of these policies were used afaik and a small population was able to assimilate large amount of people. That's is the Magyarization of the Pannonian plane which resulted in the creation of a 1.5-2 million big Hungarian population within 3-4 centuries.

Maybe hungarian users can correct me on this, but as far as I know there is no evidence of state mandate magyarization and on the demographic front all sources indicate the original migrant population had a miniscule impact on the population as a whole.

The first chapter(s) can shed some light on this question.

Then the other options wont be balanced at all. Like by all means if that is what you would like to experience: Be my guest, but I dont think it is going to turn into a good experience, especially for smaller cultures.
A fun experience is a good experience
Especially when playing as a obscure culture/religion and making it the dominate culture/religion

Related to this, I feel like the opposite happened in the Maghreb, with the Berbers living in rural areas converting very quickly to Islam. Is this true ? Is there any explanation ?
Late but probably a mix of:
- they were not as thoroughly christianized as the middle east, and it's harder to hold on to your religion if it's not very organized
- thus the pagans often syncretized their traditions into Islam, for example the barghwata
- on the other hand Christianity persisted until at least the almohads, and Judaism until present day
- the Berber revolt was heavily linked to the khawarij who were against privileges for Arabs and promoted equality between ethnicities
