I honestly think the likely outcome is a similar peace agreement that is implied to have occured prior to when brandon the builder built the wall. But you know GRRM, hes not likely to do anything the easily predictable way. Could be the others are alien invaders from outside the dyson sphere the series clearly takes place in.

The most unrealistic part of this is the book actually ever being finished

GRRM has emphatically insisted that this is fantasy AND not sci-fi, though he's been known to mix the two in the past, so I don't think the Dyson Sphere theory will turn out to be literally true, but the "living in the eye of a giant named Macumber" could, which could be a geometrically similar scenario. But even that is a creation of the showrunners, it didn't come from GRRM. Doesn't necessarily mean he won't pick it up, though.
