To all people who wanted to try on Graphical modding take a look at my tutorial (link to N!ghtY's page in my signature below). It's quite straightforward (though effort is needed). As for me I'm finishing the sprite for Italian SS. Then I'll probably do The Italian Carrier or some US-line of ships.

Top of my list for sprites we don't have in the game is the Go229. It is the listed semi modern German jet fighter and could probably be made if any one has an existing sprite of a B2 stealth bomber given the strong similarity:) If it was possible to have a sprite for the VTOL fighter I would go for the 'Triebflugel', 'Wespe' or 'Natter', Not only suitably unusual but I don't think there ever was such a plane on the drawing boards as the ME262R.

I think the 'VTOL fighter' is some sort of typo. If you look at the unmodded stats, they are the same as the advanced turbojet fighter, with the exception of a higher sea detection. The 'R' suffix seems to denote a carrier version, like with the Me109R. The same thing is the origin of the MultiRoleFighter, it is simply the MediumRangeFighter (look at the names of the respective engines) and someone read the MR abbreviation as MultiRole.

Actually pretty sure it isn't because helicopter technology is a prerequisite. Also the British equivalent is the 'Kestrel' which was a development aircraft that evolved into the 'Harrier' jump jet. Both these things make me conclude that VTOL fighters is intentional. ME262R is probably the typo. It could have been a carrier version of the ME262 but it may have indicated a rocket assisted version, which was being investigated by the germans towards the end of the war. As can be seen from the Wespe and Triebflugel pages the Germans certainly were working on vertical take off aircraft.

Yeah, but VTOL have less performance than other planes - according to the Stats the VTOL are the fastest and most powerful and that doesn't make much sense.

Sure VTOL are good for the Navy and ground attack, but as fighters they are not the best...

Remember Falkland

Yeah most VTOL is no fast than regular supersonic jet they never entered Mach speed but they prove can be dangerous.

See what happened to Falkland the best France Mirage III one by one fell into the hand Sea Harrier.

Prove the fastest wasn't everything the best.

Ahem. Isn't Harrier supersonic? And if it aint, the new F-35 "Joint Strike Fighter" surely is.

Today maybe... but the JSF is not as good as the F-22.

Falklands could be down to training... Royal Navy trains it pilots hard... That said the Argentines inflicted some heavy damage on the Royal Navy.

L3 German...

I would love to see for the L3 German Fighter...

Most fighter combat takes place at subsonic speeds. The major plus for VTOL aircraft is superior manueverability. They do tend to be slower though whether this is really a big issue you can't say.
In game terms I do think they meant to put in VTOl for the reasons expressed before but I think what they should have put in were 'Supersonic Fighters', that would fit better with the enhanced stats and might even be represented by the Ta183; its derivatives, most notably the MiG 15, were supersonic. Personally I just think a 'Wespe' or 'Triebflugel' sprite would be cool.:D

I can't make you a sprite... but...

and the Focke-Wulf Fw 283, although I do not know the background to this design. Looks more like Thunderbirds TV show type plane...

Also the He1078a looked like a fore-runner to the 1950's Sabre and Mig-15

Those are some slick renders! where did you get that? Time to change my wallpaper from CFS3...:)

I'm still wishing for some plane sprites that fit in with the game!

having played a number of games now - it seems there isn't much need for 3 levels of plane sprites, otherwise you end up with Jet sprites in 1940.

I'm not sure how the computer picks sprites (other than badly), since for some reason light tanks take the L3 sprite, whilst the more advanced Panzer IV take the more appropriate L2 sprite.

Basically it seems you only really need pre-war and then war level sprites. ie, L2 and L3 use the same sprites.

I'm hoping Sekinoss can turn his hand to planes as sucesfully as ships and ground units.

Basically you only need a few - a P51 for the US, a Spitfire for the British...

Although in an ideal world each model would be capable of having its own sprite... or at least a Multi-role fighter could have a different sprite than a fighter - even its simply a case of having green mustangs as multi-role and silver as interceptors to help distinguish the two.

Well... HOI2 maybe?
