Here's a Nitpick :

Did you ask the Codename : Panzers company if you could use that rifle picture? (The weapon the men are holding)

From Gepard:
I have done the soldiers by myself. The reference is meant nice, but every one, who did graphics has to fight with these problems. We do not receive money for it, we are doing this for the pure fun to play HOI2.

From me:
This may sound rude, but this is no fun anymore, everyone screamed for Sprites, since the release of HOI2 and here we present them, and then we get answers like your one, this i really frustrating :( . (don't get me wrong, i would write this to anyone, it's nothing personal)
We worked 500 hours at these sprites(only the infantry/most work was done by Gepard) and it is pure stress.
When i read responses like your one, i don't feel like doing anymore sprites, we hoped we had done something, that everyone would like, but now i think it was a waste of time :(

@Lordadmiral, He's actually the only that have come with complains actually. - Not many have commented here but they like the, sprites I'm sure they do. I think that they have problems understanding that other users aren't just computers making up posts. Thats why you haven't gotten many replies.

Im going to force you making sprites even if it means going down to Germany and push your work harder with a whip! :p

I'm extremely sorry! It was just a nitpick, I never knew it was major. I had no idea the sprites took such a long time. It's too bad, 'cos I haven't tried them ot yet. I'll give them a shot and tell you If I like them.

Bravo! There's the british gentleman spirit!

According to my knowledge he didnt use any 3d program.

Wow, then I'm now officially truly impressed.
Without a 3D program you don't just add shadows or replace details without thinking twice. If you guys consider doing more material (which I really hope) I seriosly advice you to look into a 3D program to spare yourself TONS of time.

The ones you have presented here looks really good and the motion is very fluid. Keep up the good work!!

I would just like to point out that everyone that uses the ghrapics and are happy with them should thank/comment their work. Gepard spend SVEREAL hours to make these. You all get them for free, the smallest thing you can do is to thank him. he deserves it, how many haven't ben whining about the lack of different sprites?? When someone gives them to you you should be greatfull. Gepard might stop working on sprites because of the low interest, if you want to see anymore sprites from him thank him for the work he have done. He's a person of flesh and bone and he has got a personal life, he could have done lots of things instead of making these sprites. But he didn't, he spent countless of hours for our sake. To improve our gaming experience. I can say that he have improved my gaming experience A LOT!! I hate to see that people don't give him credit for his work.

This was fully my initiative and I am not a part of their team, I'm doing this for my fellow human beeings.

So did thousands of other modders for several games in the gaming community.

Many people probably are. But as you pointed out, every modder does all this because he wants to. Not because someone asked him to. I for one am mostly working on the HIP mod because I simply like to mod a game I like to make it better. If someone else profits from that all the better. But I don't expect a thank you every day.

The same is true about paid makers of the games. And usually you hear only whining when it comes to their product. It's true that they are paid for what they do but a lot of those people have invested a lot into their product are are usually very proud of it. Imagine how they feel if they are mostly attacked for some minor bugs in their product or what they didn't implement but hardly ever get an appreciation for the great product they delivered, which is the basis for all mods to come.

I say it again. The same is true for all the modders around here and in every other gaming community. A modder does what he does because he loves the game and wants to improve it, not because he expects anything in return.
If he did he wouldn't mod, he'd program games for a living and get money for it that he could spend on another hobby.

Sorry if this sounds aggressive, it's not supposed to. I do highly appreciate all the work modders around the world do to the games I like. But being one myself and knowing a lot of modders from all different kinds of games I dare say that asking for something in return is not the modders' way, even if it is just a "thank you".
Either people like your work and decide to let you know, or they don't. But it was your decision to do what you did and the players don't really owe you anything in my opinion.

Again, this wasn't meant offensive, just pointing out my opinion.
I DO appreciate their work.

This is actually meant for evryone concerning all mods, I just angled it for them as I would hate to see them quitting. Usually many people likes your work but you'll never here about it. Hearing someone that liked your work thanking you inspires you to continue. You do not ask for anything but if you dont get anything for it you don't do it anymore. It feels useless.

Thanks again Van der Gent, this was unexpected, we really appriciate your effort :)

@KeldorKatarn
Yes, your right every modder should get at least some positive feedback for there work.
But let me explain, what it means to do these Sprites, as you know, there aren't many Sprites out there, besides the converted from HOI1.
The simple answer, why aren't more People doing Sprites is, after doing your first one, you see, that it is an incredible amount of work, then you decide to do more or not, usually people decide not to do more.
I think many people have seen the Infantry Sprite from us, most of them don't know how many work hours (500 Hours, most work was done by Gepard) we put into them.
You can't compare say an Event and an Sprite, when you know how to write events, it is done in somthing like 1/4 hour, but a Sprite, even if it is only one direction, can take so much time like a week.
The people may appreciate our work but as Van der Gent said, everybody screamed for Sprites and here we have done Sprites but there is very little response and this is frustrating, we thought, we get some feedback from the people.
When i look into other Treads, many people, complain, discuss, give hints or fund some error but not here, i really can't understand this, we simply don't know where we stand, do the people like the sprites, or are there any flaws but there is only little response.

Maybe you can understand us
Like your text this wasn't meant offensive, this is only my opinion.
And sorry for my bad english :D next time i write in german.
Gruß aus Niedersachsen :)

One must choose his battles.

:)p When I belive in something I fight for it, it can be equality, love or your sprites, but when i think its important I fight for it:) )

yes Lordadmiral, Gepard and Geraldino and families. The sprites do look GREAT! and Thank you for putting the effort into making them.

I personally hate counters, so having more options than just using the converted HOI1 ones. IS a GODSEND!!!

Ok, I thought I'd show the community the progress on the JU87 3D model I have been working on. Now I can model this in all different angels (in other words direct in any flightpath). Is anyone interested in helping me out with the sprite mechanics?

Edit:
Ok, I just had to see what it looked like when moving :D

Wow! These really look great! I have always loved HOI2 but felt it would be so much more alive with better sprites. I will probably wait to download until I recieve Doomsday. Do you know if your sprites will be compatable? Keep up the great work. Thanks.

I have been staring into these and kept thinking that there is something missing - and that is shadows. They seem detached from the map and not "in" the provinces, but above them if you know what I mean. Like the sprites that I use from hoi1 - they seem in the right place and achored in:

http://xsorbit25.com/users5/hoiplayers/index.php?topic=969.msg24517#msg24517

in one of the earlier posts, it says that they tried to get shadows to work, but that they didn't look good. So they (DMP) removed the shadows

aha sry missed that. Any link to how they look(ed) with "shadows"?

We haven't done any Screens back in january as we tested the infantry sprites with shadows

I had to say... Thank u very much!!

I´m still looking at the screenies and pics in the site... And i´m astounded, with the quality, and the cheer ammount of work needed to have all of this made... And well, I just have to say thanks. I still didn´t check everything, cuz I´m downloading, but it´s all so greatly made that I couldn´t wait... Please Guys, keep doing the sprites, and all the little changes U can think of, to this already amazing job, We thank u, every time we play, but I think A liitle reply post... Is the least we can do, and NO trouble at all.

P.S. - Compared to the time spent doing this to all our benfict it´s ridiculous. I bet hundreds download and use this work but are just lazy or just plain selfish... An don´t even bother about giving a little feedback.
About modding or playing games, ppl are ppl, and everyones likes to see their work recognized... Even generous volunteer work, should be thank for, I guess...
