I have been looking all over for a solid answer for what size mini's battle tech uses on a standard board and I can finding a lot of conversations dancing around the topic but not providing a strait answer. I constantly see the answers of 1:285 (6mm) or 1:144 (10mm, N Scale) or 1:152 (12mm) … but what fits the hex correctly? What comes in the Latest "A game of armored combat"?

Why am I getting different answers? Wouldn't they be too big for the base if the 1:285 (6mm) is the "right size" for a standard hex? or is 1:285 (6mm) too small? The only thing I can figure is that Mechs1:285 (6mm) , vehicles are 1:144 (10mm, N Scale) , and infantry is 1:152 (12mm) so that they are disproportional to each other but they all fit the 1 inch standard hex base?

I some how did research on 3 different days and came up with 3 different answers that I am not sure about.

If they all fit, would 1:285 (6mm) for light, 1:144 (10mm / N-scale) for medium / heavy, and 1:52 (12mm) for Assault work to make them look more a little more visually distinctive?

Thanks in advance for any help!!

First off, the hex maps are NOT to scale with the mechs. They are acting as an abstraction, which works since you are playing on a hex board. In actuality, a hex is 30m across and dwarfs the 12m mech in it. There are rules to ditch the hexboard and play like a normal miniature game, however.

That said, I've mostly seen references to 6mm scale in battletech forums and websites selling battletech terrain. Mechs are BIG. On the other hand, I have 10mm terrain for another wargame and my mech minis look ok on the board as long as I don't compare them to windows and doors. Mech minis are of kinda inconsistent scale anyways.

Standard Maps sheet hexs are printed to be 1.25" (3.175cm) across. As for scale...It's not definitive, but 6mm (1:285) does seem to be the generally accepted scale for most 'mechs (some do not follow this scale however).
