Hi,

I'm a huge fan of star trek and stellaris. I play stellaris on linux and I gave up on windows a few years ago. I see in the steam store that Star Trek Infinite will be windows only. Is this true or will there be a linux version of the game available for people like me?

No Mac OS version?! I own Stellaris and a heap of DLC for my Mac on gog. I saw the email this morning and jumped to Steam to preorder :(
Native Mac OS version will be available at launch. We don't have the build finalized yet. We have worked with Apple engineers directly, which also means that it's very nicely optimized (slightly better performance than a like-for-like PC running on Windows, even!) Just a few minor things that are causing crashes on Mac, but these have been identified and will be fixed for launch.

Amazing news! Thank you so much for letting me know. Just made my day!

Currently, there are no plans to have native Linux support. Proton should work, though.
Any idea why this is the only forum where I get the message: YOU HAVE INSUFFICIENT PRIVILEGES TO POST THREADS HERE

I expect with the popularity of the steam deck and steam OS the game will run decently with proton.

Sorry about that! Looks like permissions are a little messed up. We're on it.

This seems to be out very soon. Are there going to be anything like dev diaries for it?

(Only asking here because forum permission nonsense.)
Dev Diaries will start next week! :)

Strange that there's going to be a native macos build and not a Linux build, considering that the latter has more users according to the steam hw survey. Proton is fine and all for engines that don't already have Linux support, which isn't the case here. I prioritize buying games that have official support for my platform so I hope you'll reconsider the decision in time.

The developers' diaries are due to appear in the coming days. In general, when I saw these key characters in the previews, so in addition to Picard also Gowron and Dukat, I felt a sentimental trip to the whole series, which I am currently catching up on. Let's keep that 12 October coming.

I think Stellaris (which seems to be the Base for this game) is allready on Mac? So Mac support is easierchzeaper to realize then Linux.

Stellaris has supported Linux since launch.

Kind of surprising that it doesn't come with Linux support - from the screenshots it looks like it was built on top of Stellaris, which already has Linux support.

Paradox has been making noises about dropping Linux support for some time now, and it looks like they've recently begun making good on that threat (Cities Skylines 2, now this). This is despite the fact that CS2 is a Unity game, and Unity has great Linux support. It appears dropping Linux fans was a business decision rather than a technical one.

As a Linux player I was initially upset by this change, but honestly I am now a big fan. Before, I would get excited and blindly pre-order. Now, I need to wait for release so I can hear how well the game runs on Proton. Therefore, I also get to read independent post-release reviews before I decide to put any cash down. No hype and no impulse buying.

Well, they have the numbers, and when the cost dont match with the gains and the growth simply is not there Í see why they want to use their limited resources else where... As sad as it is for those who are based around linux.

I don't think it's necessarily about the numbers (assuming you mean number of users), since they do support MacOS, of which there are fewer steam users than Linux. However Linux has proton (and Mac doesn't have something equivalent, AFAIK), taking away incentive to support Linux users separately.

While I understand the argument about using Proton to provide Linux support, "Proton should work" is hardly a compelling endorsement - if there is an issue with it through proton that doesn't exist for Windows, does that mean Linux users are left out?
